Bug #: 33631 Summary: MS Office 2007 will not save files / unable to uninstall the package Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: arm64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: soibelrs@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
MS Office 2007 installed very well, functioned the same as in Windows-7
PROBLEM: DOES NOT SAVE FILES
When using Save As, whatever format, goes into "MS Office Configuration" several times. Then fails on a requested module which is not installed. Having failed a few times, advises to run MS Office Setup with option "REPAIR".
I did that a few times, but the problem persisted.
My conclusion: the filing system of MS Office will not change from Windows to Linux (Ubuntu 13.04). Note: I am well trained USER, not so much technical, with 2 months only experience in Ubuntu 13.04. I am running my routine work without any difficulty at all.
Other software packages that I frequently use with help of Wine: Photoshop CS2 (successful), various Diagram Designers downloaded from CNET.COM (I do a lot of diagramming work), MyHeritage (very good. works very well), GOM Player, and a few little things. ALL working very well, and they were very easy to install.

What Wine version are you using, and what is the Windows version set to in winecfg?
1. Wine Version 1.0-r2
2. Winecfg Default Windows XP
3. I took initiative to change Winecfg to Windows 7
- Ran Q4Wine (without install)
- Error Out of Memory to run this application
Note: my computer Laptop 64 Memory 2GB Windows-7
4. Additional problem:
- Uninstall Add/Remove Programs
- Select to remove Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
- Message from Microsoft Office enterprise 2007:
Uninstall did not complete successfully.
Now I cannot remove the previous installation.
Please note that I am not stressed with this problem, as I can work comfortably well on LibreOffice. We could maybe resolve this case with due care, without rush.
Many thanks for your continuous support

- Wine Version 1.0-r2
That's really old (there have been 2 stable releases since then). Upgrade to 1.5.30 and retest.
Winecfg Default Windows XP
I took initiative to change Winecfg to Windows 7
That shouldn't be necessary.
- Ran Q4Wine (without install)
3rd party wine tools are not supported.

--- Comment #5 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-05-21 19:32:52 CDT --- Office 2007 didn't start working in Wine until 1.1.3.
Upgrade Wine and reinstall to a clean wineprefix following the instructions in the AppDB.
In the future, please test in the current development release before filing bugs. For user help, post questions on the forum.
Marking invalid.

--- Comment #6 from Raoul S soibelrs@gmail.com 2013-05-21 21:49:29 CDT --- The Forum does not explain how to download/update software
Canonical Home Page instructs to download software from Ubuntu Software Center.
So please help me, only this time, how to get the latest release, and I will put it on the Forum, so that all Community will know.
<this morning> Ubuntu Software Center 22-May-2013 7:20am GMT-7
Updated this morning, Software Sources includes Canonical
Version wine 1.4.1-Oubuntu5
Updates: Canonical does not provide updates for Microsoft Windows Compatibility Layer (meta-package). Some updates may be provided by the Ubuntu community.

--- Comment #7 from Raoul S soibelrs@gmail.com 2013-05-21 22:50:45 CDT --- Yeah, I managed to get Wine updated to 1.5.30 It is on the Forum, Ubuntu Software Center, Software Sources, there are two entries for Canonical, add APT line ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa That will then update Wine software to latest version, and will keep on updating.
Anyway, MS Office did not work, probably because the filing structure cannot be changed, so it will not save. All the other programs worked fine. This is not a big loss for me because I like LibreOffice all the same.
