Crazy blank screen

What on earth is this? I try to open up steam, and I get this absurd window!
How is one to use Steam with this crap? I have no idea what causes it, but it
is in desperate need of repair.

Not a blocker, read http://bugs.winehq.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#importance

This is a duplicate of a known issue. Just disable dwrite.dll in winecfg as a
workaround.
