I've played OpenGeneral
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/opengeneral/files/DailyBuild/) for three years
without any problem under wine1.0 + ubuntu lucid 10.4. After upgrading wine
version up to 1.4 the program does not start at all (but still works with
wine1.0).

Looks like a graphics driver problem, did you recently switch graphic drivers,
and do native opengl programs work?

If that's all ok, please try wine-1.5.10.

If wine-1.5.10 doesn't solve it, please do a regression test to identify the
patch that broke the game.  See

unfortunately there is no wine 1.5.10 package for ubuntu lucid, i've asked a
fellow open general & linux user to test it. he had the same problem with wine
1.4.0 running open general

additional hw/sw infos:

distro: ubuntu 10.04.4 lts
kernel: linux-headers-2.6.32-30
vga controller: intel corporation 82852/855gm integrated graphics device (rev
02)

OpenGeneral downloaded from the link in the description starts up just fine on
my system in 1.5.10, though there is no sound (not sure if there should be).

If there are no 1.5.10 packages for your distro, build Wine yourself. You will
have to do that to run a regression test anyway.

thanks for your test! i'm compiling 1.5.10 now. just a short answer: sound
never worked. that's another, less important issue :)

1.5.10.
