Summary: Quicken 2009 fails to update QW09R7Patch Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: mgc0424@shaw.ca
Running Ubuntu 10.04, Wine 1.2.rc2, Quicken 2009 r2.
New patch 7 exists for Quicken 2009, but running Wine on QW09R7Patch.exe results in Quicken complaining it's not the latest (It is, since I updated release R2 with R7 running in native Windows 2000. Trying to ensure my apps work on Ubuntu before sunsetting W2K).
Sorry for just the one attachment. Tried attaching 2 others but this form only accepts one and I couldn't figure out how to combine them. Quicken2.png would have shown the QW0R9Patch.exe file saved on my disk and Quicken4.png would have shown update not completed; update will not work on my version..

Huh? Why again? I'm not following you.
That's not how you start a program from the command line. Instead you should cd to whatever directory the QW09R7Patch.exe file was in in the first place, and run: wine QW09R7Patch.exe >& log.txt
Attach the log file as a text file, not an image.
This isn't a support forum: if you're still having trouble with basic stuff like this, you'll want to ask on wine-users.

The problem in the previous attempt to initiate QW09RPatch.exe via the terminal (attachment 28625) is due to the 'blank' in the folder 'Program Files' Once I changed the folder name to 'Program_Files', I was able to set current directory and create a log (but it's empty).

Juan,
Don't bother checking any further on this problem. I got a bigger one at the moment. While checking the Quicken support site I saw a few items regarding update issues. Recommendation was to uninstall and reinstall Quicken, then apply the latest patch. Tried via Wine uninstall and Quicken CD but the wizard complained it was interrupted before completion. I tried deleting the Quicken files manually, but the Wine menu still lists the program. I can't reinstall and I can't uninstall. Sticking with Windows 2000 until next weekend when I'll try Ubuntu again.

Renaming this is likely to break things just as it would break horribly on Windows if you renamed your Program Files directory.
I agree with Juan, so far you have not presented what the problem is as much as you have demonstrated some misunderstanding of how to use Wine. As a starting point you should use the forum http://forum.winehq.org to work out where you might be going wrong and isolating problems with Wine before filing a bug report.
Resolving invalid.

Jeff,
Thank-you for the link. I removed .wine and reinstalled it with Synaptic Package Manager. From there I was able to install Quicken 2009 r1 from CD, however, once I do one step update, and Quicken responds with free update (Release 2) is available, I get a patching error has occurred. I downloaded the latest patch QW09R7Patch.exe from the Intuit website and saved the file on the desktop in file folder Quicken Patches (and a copy in the Quicken folder). When I try to install with Wine or via terminal, I get the response as initially reported.

(From update of attachment 28664 [details]) Note the debug.txt file created was empty.
Still incorrectly generated: you used winedebug=+relay,+seh,+tid, not WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid . Case matters. Also please stop attaching screenshots of your command prompt: copy and paste the text into a text file if you must, and attach that here instead.

--- Comment #22 from mgc0424@shaw.ca 2010-06-08 16:01:54 --- Juan and Jeff,
Wine install is working fine!
While doing a Google search for Quicken patches I discovered there are different patches for the Canadian and US versions of Quicken 2009. The latest patch for the US version is QW09R7Patch.exe found at http://quicken.intuit.com/support/articles/using-quicken/patches-and-updates... and the latest patch for the Canadian version is Q2009_Canada_R2_Patch.exe found at http://support.intuit.ca/quicken/en-ca/kb/update-or-upgrade/product-updates/... . Although the package states 'Canada's #1 Personal Finance Software' I thought this was just a selling gimmick. It finally dawned on me that I was using the wrong patch when I found the ...Canada_R2... patch. I was running with the latest version when I raised this trouble ticket, but with all the monkeying around, I ended up having to start from scratch my deleting and reinstalling wine, reinstalling Quicken 2009 and finally applying the R2 patch.
Sorry for wasting your time looking into a non-existent 'software' problem.
