Bug ID: 52702 Summary: Old DLLs left in system32 and syswow Product: Wine Version: 7.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: mikes@kuentos.guam.net Distribution: ---
Noticed a difference with running wine under my regular user versus a new setup with root user for testing?
Found my user had a number of dll files in directories were older recent install under the root user?? Moved old dll to dll.org and then copied the newer one from root? Fixed my problem, but not sure why the dlls hadn't been updated like most others? Some just a few months, but one was from 1998?

--- Comment #1 from Rafał Mużyło galtgendo@o2.pl --- The way I see it, wineboot wiping out random stuff would be far more annoying.
Also, while kind of broken, some programs drop some of their stuff there too.

--- Comment #2 from Michael Setzer II mikes@kuentos.guam.net --- Not clear what wineboot would have to do with this?? Have done many updates that included wine over years, and not sure why these dll were not updated with all the other updates that were made to wine.
With the exception of a few other files, the oldest files are from May 2020. Will have to check those out later, since they didn't exist in the latest clean install so might have been something added by other installs or wintricks?
If there is a reason, why newer versions were not installed.
Perhaps someone will have a clear reason why.

--- Comment #3 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org --- My guess would be that these are native dlls installed by apps or winetricks. These don't get updated.
