Summary: Mass Effect DVD Value Edition doesn't start Product: Wine Version: 1.3.6 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: emanuele.emalele@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=31878) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=31878) Console output when launchig ME Config Tool
Graphics driver used: ATI fglrx ver 10.10
Game installation works until final step of vcredist which crash, anyway the game results installed. Installed patch 1.02, done winetricks for vc2005sp1 redist: game's launch returns to command prompt.
Launching game config tool: program launched successfully but it complains about missing directx installation and the list of video and audio device is empty.
Done winetricks for d3dx9 and then used ALL the d3dx9 in native mode: game's launch simply returns to the command prompt. Installed directx from Mass Effect DVD: as above and the config tool reports missing directx.
Attached the console output when executing config tool and choose to check video device which results empty.

--- Comment #1 from Emanuele emanuele.emalele@gmail.com 2010-11-21 10:01:36 CST --- Finally I succeded in launching that complex game:
1. installed the game, then patch 1.02, then DLC Bring Down The Sky 2. winetricks vcrun2008 3. winetricks d3dx9 4. winetricks dinput8 5. setup in Winecfg native direct input 8 6. launching with the following string to have mouse pointer in the game:
WINEFORCEMOUSEWRAP=yes wine MassEffect.exe
Game starts and I succeed also in loading my Windows savegames but (there is ever a but dammit ;) ) after successful loading the game crush fiercely at the first in-game screen: I must kill everything after ps-ing the process because it stuck hard.
Attached the new launching log: I see a lot of fixme so maybe there is hope.
The worst thing anyway is that for just a matter of seconds I can see the screen and the 3D models are not appearing. As of now I suppose this 'invisible 3D objects' with ATI is definitely an heavy issue because I noted it in almost any games using advanced directx calls (or at least I suppose it :) ).

--- Comment #3 from Reji i.s.Reji@gmail.com 2011-05-18 10:12:39 CDT --- I have a similar problem. I'll try to remove any d3d, reinstall fglrx... Not working.

--- Comment #4 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2011-07-02 12:45:26 CDT --- This sounds like a duplicate of bug 22091.
Please note, that you can install the game (at least it works for me), including the DX installation, then run the datasetup.exe (it's in the data directory on the DVD) manually afterwards, patch the game to 1.02 and you should be fine.
Though I'm using the game with the Gallium3D driver (r600g) and not the proprietary one.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-11-13 16:51:50 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
