Summary: Celtic Kings doesn't play audio Product: Wine Version: 1.3.24 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.fileplanet.com/111590/110000/fileinfo/Celti c-Kings-Demo OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=35569) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35569) terminal output (only built-in dlls)
Celtic Kings: Rage of War doesn't emit any audio during gameplay, the game runs silently.
The game starts with a crash (reported in bug #27808). While 'winetricks directmusic' works around the crash, still no audio in the game with native dmusic dlls.
I also tried the followings but none of them helped: - Alsa with 'emulation' - winetricks dsoundbug9612 - the resampler patchset in bug #14717
Fedora 15 Alsa 1.0.24

Still a problem in Wine 1.5.3.
Native directmusic dlls don't help. Music is in ogg format, all other sounds are in wav format.

--- Comment #3 from Emanuele emanuele.emalele@gmail.com --- Hi,
the game still has this bug in version 1.7.29: no WA found neither by setting native sound libraries.
Could you please change the status of this bug to NEW? In my opinion after years of reporting it should be set to really existent.
Thank you.

--- Comment #5 from Emanuele emanuele.emalele@gmail.com --- Hi Rosanne,
did the winetricks thing but nothing changed: sounds and music off.
Anyway indeed the errors changed here follows wine report:

You need to retest in plain Wine. The Ubuntu packages include unsupported changes to dsound as well as the winepulse driver.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I followed your advice and now I have Wine without the unsupported source code.
The bug now has evolved: music is playing but the screen is black.
I made some test and the involved library is 'quartz' which appears set to 'native' after the suggested winetricks.
I tried to set quartz as the wine version one and the screen is no more black, I can see the main menu but the music is muted again. Here is the log when using integrated quartz library:
err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found err:ole:apartment_getclassobject DllGetClassObject returned error 0x80040111 err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {da4e3da0-d07d-11d0-bd50-00a0c911ce86} could be created for context 0x1 fixme:quartz:Parser_QueryInterface No interface for {37d84f60-42cb-11ce-8135-00aa004bb851}! fixme:quartz:MPEGSplitter_query_accept MPEG-1 system streams not yet supported.
It seems the same bug of 9127 but in this case it seems to interfere also on music.

--- Comment #8 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- Thanks for testing in plain Wine; your results (sound plays with the workaround) confirm this is a duplicate of 35478.
As for your black screen problem, ask for help on the forum. Problems caused by using native dlls are not Wine bugs, and bugzilla is not for user support. (I don't get a black screen with native quartz.)

Definitely you're right: I cleaned my wine default prefix path and now I have the full game with music.
Thank you for everything: now I'll update also some apps to redirect to proper defect number... we made a clean work and some order ;)
