Bug #: 31581 Summary: Supreme Commander (steam version) shows a black screen Product: Wine Version: 1.5.11 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: bladud@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 41529 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41529 Console log
When starting Supreme Commander (the steam version) the screen is black.
The resolution changes, I still get the sound effects, I get a cursor, and apparently mouseover sounds, but nothing else.
Steam has installed d3dx9_31.dll for me, and I installed steam using winetricks. Both steam and the addon forged alliance work fine.
I didn't try this on older wine versions, so I don't know if it's a regression.

Workaround: disable bloom_render

--- Comment #4 from Grundik grundik-com@ololo.cc 2012-12-25 09:01:58 CST --- Probably yes, since disabling bloom_render helped for me.

--- Comment #5 from Grundik grundik-com@ololo.cc 2012-12-25 09:07:06 CST --- Another issue: setting fidelity to high causes game to stop rendering in-game (menu works fine, only game itself is affected, graphics is freezes after first frame is rendered).

--- Comment #6 from Grundik grundik-com@ololo.cc 2012-12-25 09:15:25 CST --- Current game version in steam are 1.1.0

--- Comment #7 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- I can confirm this bug, when bloom_render is enabled the screen remains black after starting the game. Tested with the Steam version of the game. Native d3dx9_31 and XAudio dlls are installed.

The problem is the same, I've made a VM installed it a got the config file with bloom render deactivated, replaced it in my wine install. Works like magic.
Here is as attached the file you need to replace.
For the classic wine win xp, you will find the folder here :
/home/username/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/steam/drive_c/users/username/Local Settings/Application Data/Gas Powered Games/SupremeCommander
Just replace Game.prefs with the attachement, no more black screen.

--- Comment #11 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Please retest with a more recent Wine and report back if the problem is still present or not.
I can reproduce this bug in Wine 3.18 when 'Bloom=1', but it's no longer present with Wine 4.x or 5.x versions.
