Tried by running in ternimal:

$ wine iepreview.msi

which results in:

wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\home\rich\Downloads\ie\iepreview.msi

Then it's fine that it doesn't work. MSI isn't a executable file format. Use
'wine msiexec /i iepreview.msi', before that cd to installer directory. If
you're running from ntfs/fat (windows) partition directly make sure you're able
to execute files from it.

You use 'wine start file.msi'.
