Bug #: 31448 Summary: Steam X3 reuinion crashes on mission start Product: Wine Version: 1.5.4 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: aidygus@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 41337 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41337 Back trace given after crash
If I start a game outside the story line, everything appears to be working as intended. I can dock, use the console, fly around, jump gates but if I start a storyline mission the game crashes after the cut scene with brenan talking to bandana.
I have followed other steps apparently needed to run music and videos (which all seem to be running fine)

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-08-12 01:16:02 CDT --- Could you attach the full terminal output to see what's going on before the game crashes? Also, please upgrade your Wine, 1.5.10 is the current version.
It must be noted that several native dlls needed in order to get music, videos and voice working in this game. This may make it difficult to tell if it is purely a Wine bug, or due to the native components installed.
I tested the Steam version of the game with 1.5.4 and 1.5.10 but couldn't reproduce the crash. Firstly, there is bug #30364, which requires native amstream and disabled winegstreamer as a workaround. To get music, videos and voice fully working, I had to additionally install: wmp10 l3codecx quartz devenum. Then I started a storyline mission, waited for the videos to end..there was no crash, only a ~10 seconds pause when the video ended.
Tested on Fedora 17 (32-bit), Nvidia 250 / driver 304.32

I had to remove a couple thousand lines of fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8 to get the file under the 1 meg limit.

Disabling dwrite.dll would have resulted in a much smaller log. Is your sound card configured correctly, do other games run with sound?
ALSA lib ../../src/confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card '0' ALSA lib ../../src/conf.c:4184:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: No such file or directory ...
Except for that, your log doesn't show anything interesting. Could you try reinstalling the game in a clean wineprefix, and install only those native dlls that I mentioned in comment #1 (wmp10 l3codecx amstream devenum quartz)

--- Comment #4 from Raath aidygus@yahoo.com 2012-08-24 07:46:37 CDT --- I fixed this problem by upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 to mint 13. After copying some the devenum dll file from an XP installation it worked fine though I have no movies, it is no longer crashing. It just skips the movies and runs right into the game

Using native dlls is not a valid fix. It probably should have been resolved as INVALID rather than FIXED.
