robert@rmuntean-w7:~/Downloads> file VIPAccessSetup.exe VIPAccessSetup.exe: PE32 executable (GUI) Intel 80386, for MS Windows
However, using WINEARCH=win32 wine VIPAccessSetup.exe allowed me to start and complete the installer ( although the first screen still shows that an error occured, there is no backtrace ).

--- Comment #4 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@baikal.ru 2012-02-14 03:30:58 CST --- Sounds like a problem with your Wine setup. Did you compile Wine yourself or used a pre-built package?

--- Comment #7 from Marcus Meissner marcus@jet.franken.de 2012-02-14 04:52:44 CST --- Some installers these days contain both 64bit and 32bit versions. depending on which environment you install it, you get the 64bit or 32bit version.
both should work ;)
default openSUSE is a 64bit setup with 32bit WoW.
This is not an openSUSE error though, it is just a Wine bug triggered by the 64bit Installer of this package which needs to be fixed.

--- Comment #10 from Robert Munteanu robert.munteanu@gmail.com 2012-02-14 05:56:32 CST --- Actually, it seems that the installation ( partially ) succeeds. The error is related to something called 'Intel Identity Protection' which fails to install . Waiting for 5-10 seconds after closing the installation wizard produces the VIP access client installation wizard, which completes succesfully.

Also, since the failure is in the Intel Identity Protection installer, not the VIP client installer, this is not such a large problem anymore. I've updated the title to reflect that.

--- Comment #12 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2012-05-03 11:52:09 CDT --- Hello,
i've seen that backtrace from InstallShield 32-bit vs. 64-bit client/server engine COM server. This app requires registration for download so I can't really verify.
Does the 32-bit installer work in a pure 32-bit WINEPREFIX (WINEARCH=win32)? If yes it's a dupe of 24611
Regards

There is no registration needed, just use the 'Symantec VIP Access Desktop' link.

Right now installation works for both 32 and 64bit, but the 64 version does not start:
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC90.MFC" (9.0.21022.8) err:module:import_dll Library mfc90u.dll (which is needed by L"C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\VIP Access Client\VIPUIManager.exe") not found err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\VIP Access Client\VIPUIManager.exe" failed, status c0000135
However, there is a Microsoft.VC90.CRT directory in the VIP Access Client folder.

So this bug is fixed?
Hard to say, since installation is now blocked by bug #31377 .

--- Comment #16 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2013-07-22 04:53:47 CDT --- It was more of a rhetorical question. If the application installs as per comment 13, then it is fixed.
New bug = new bug report.
This can be reopened if THIS BUG is reproducible.

--- Comment #17 from Robert Munteanu robert.munteanu@gmail.com 2013-07-22 05:36:06 CDT --- The application no longer installs as described in comment 13, that comment was made more than one year ago (!).
In the meantime installation is broken completely by bug #31377 so I will only be able to verify it once that bug is fixed. I don't think it's fair to close this bug because another bug appeared in the meantime which makes this one impossible to verify.

That comment is outdated. Right now ( wine 1.6 ) I can't see if the problem is fixed or not because installation fails too early due to bug 31377.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29889 Bug 29889 depends on bug 31377, which changed state.

please stop reopening/recycling bugs for no reason. The bug definitely progressed the OLE problem and you are abusing it for multiple unrelated issues.
FYI bug 31377 was fixed some time ago.

It doesnt install correctly, no idea why. I think we should close this bug and report new one against the installer, if someone is interested to get it working.
