------- Additional Comments From blakecmartin@gmail.com 2007-09-02 08:54 ------- I had this problem recently with Wine 0.9.29 (downloaded from a Ubuntu repository). I'd be playing along, then lose all input and the display would crash.
As 0.9.30 was not available, I downloaded the source code and compiled it myself to see if the problem went away. I've been playing this game every days for several hours and the problem no longer occurs. I removed my previous Wine installation before installing the newer one.
I don't know if this has something to do with the OpenGL driver I was using, my NVIDIA drivers (the latest from nvidia.com on a FX 5700), or the archive. It never happened in my former distro (I used to use Fedora 6, now I'm using Ubuntu 6.10). I tend to have the best luck with Wine and all other software when I download and compile the source. It's time-consuming, but it might be worth a try to see if the problem goes away.
I wish you the best of luck in resolving this issue.
