Bug ID: 53881 Summary: Missing GUI elements in “The Settlers: Heritage of Kings” after application switching Product: Wine Version: 7.20 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: Markus.Elfring@web.de Distribution: ---
Created attachment 73408 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=73408 screenshot for a questionable information display
I tried the game “The settlers (gold edition)” out once more by components from the software package “wine 7.20-1498.5”.
Some information was logged for further development considerations.

Now I wonder about undesirable data processing effects from recent software evolution. The program is usable after its basic start initialisation. But I can occasionally get into the mood to switch to an other application. I can switch back to the game after I got some work done with other tools. But I observe that the corresponding graphical user interface became broken. Under which circumstances will the desired display be completely restored?

--- Comment #3 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de --- (In reply to Gijs Vermeulen from comment #2) Would anybody observe similar display surprises after switching between programs? (A simple screen unlocking can disturb the game experience at the moment.)

Does the issue also happens when resizing the game window in windowed mode (not virtual desktop)?
Regards.

Would you like to point any special ways out for redirecting the display of the affected program from a full screen to a drawing area within a movable application window?
Do I need to fiddle with the tool “DxWnd” here?

Hello,
I'm sorry, the 'gold edition' of the game has no windowed mode, only the 'history edition' has. You may ignore my question.
Please attach a normal (=without WINEDEBUG) terminal output. Instructions to get a log can be found there: https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
Regards.

--- Comment #7 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de --- (In reply to Olivier F. R. Dierick from comment #6) Can you work any more with data from the terminal output which I presented for the initial description of this bug report?

--- Comment #8 from Sven Grewe svengrewe@posteo.de --- Can you try this again on a recent version of Wine?
I couldn't reproduce this. It's maybe something between Wine 7.17 and 9.10 if I followed it correctly.
