Summary: WoW makes garbage noise on startup (Win7) Product: Wine Version: 1.3.0 Platform: x86 URL: http://worldofwarcraft.com OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: mmdevapi AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: adys.wh@gmail.com
Setting winecfg to Windows 7 results in WoW making some short garbage noise (~1000ms) when starting up 100% of the time.
The following lines happen at the same time:
err:mmdevapi:ACR_ReleaseBuffer Starting from 1014 err:mmdevapi:ACR_ReleaseBuffer Starting from 1014 err:mmdevapi:ACR_ReleaseBuffer Starting from 1014 err:mmdevapi:ACR_ReleaseBuffer Starting from 1014

--- Comment #1 from Randy mistac87@gmail.com 2010-08-20 16:42:37 --- I can confirm this as well, and I cannot find a work-around as well. Issue is also in Wine 1.2.

--- Comment #2 from Jerome Leclanche adys.wh@gmail.com 2010-09-13 16:34:51 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=30734) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30734) pulseaudio -v output
Ok, let's try this.
pulseaudio -v shows a lot of underruns, likely caused by the errs in wine. Attached is a bunch of these underruns over the course of an hour.
This affects the entire sound daemon as I get sound issues until restarting PA with every app after a long session on WoW.
Given that alsa driver is broken on wow with maverick, that sound in d3d will crash entirely if not set to win vista/7, and that there are too many unresolved issues with the opengl wow client in cataclysm... this leaves little choice.

--- Comment #3 from Jerome Leclanche adys.wh@gmail.com 2010-09-13 16:59:27 CDT --- On a freshly started PA daemon, starting wow results in the following, when the garbage noise happens:
I: alsa-sink.c: Underrun! I: alsa-sink.c: Increasing minimal latency to 1.00 ms I: alsa-sink.c: Underrun! I: alsa-sink.c: Increasing minimal latency to 2.00 ms I: alsa-sink.c: Underrun! I: alsa-sink.c: Increasing minimal latency to 4.00 ms I: alsa-sink.c: Underrun! I: alsa-sink.c: Increasing minimal latency to 8.00 ms
Decreasing the min/def periods in AC_GetDevicePeriod() worked really well to fix sounds. I still get underruns but very rarely now.

How would I go about decreasing it?

--- Comment #5 from Alfio alfio8788@enterprise-ita.org 2010-11-24 08:50:32 CST --- This does not affect only WoW, Atlantica online has skipping BGM and wine sends the same message to the output.
