Summary: Starcraft sound other than music breaks in 0.9.49 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.49. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-dsound AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: toad@amphibian.dyndns.org
Starcraft no longer plays unit acknowledgements (mostly, occasionally I get one), the briefing room speech, and some minor sounds in the menus. It was working before (0.9.47 I think). This is the winehq debian package 0.9.49.

--- Comment #1 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-11 19:13:40 --- This is using ALSA. When I had an issue with sound on crossover they said it was unsupported...

--- Comment #2 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-11 19:32:30 --- Also breaks with OSS.

--- Comment #4 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-13 19:16:17 --- Built 0.9.48 and 0.9.49 from source to verify that it was new in 0.9.49 as a first step towards regression testing. Now it works, with 0.9.49 from source and even with the binary package! :| Maybe this bug should be closed?

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2007-11-13 22:17:24 --- Can you try with a clean .wine using the winehq package as well as building from source to make sure the problem is in the winehq package? Is there a demo of this program (or any program that breaks under wine 0.9.49)?

--- Comment #7 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-17 18:28:25 --- I moved .wine, installed starcraft successfully (sound worked fine in the menus/videos), then tried to install brood war. Got the null pointer attached, repeatably.
Copied .wine to a backup, purged wine package, did make install on previously built 0.9.49 source. I still get the same dump with the compiled version of wine.

--- Comment #9 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-17 18:40:26 --- Now I can't even run wine on the .wine that was working! I get: planeshift@bagrat42:~/.wine/drive_c/Starcraft$ wine StarCraft.exe fixme:advapi:SetSecurityInfo stub err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x1505ecbc "?" wait timed out in thread 000a, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) The last bit repeats indefinitely. (Sorry for the paste but I figured it was short). I did have a bunch of winemenubuilder.exe's running but I killed them, it's still broken.

--- Comment #10 from Matthew Toseland toad@amphibian.dyndns.org 2007-11-17 19:13:06 --- This last part seems to be something to do with the CD-ROM playing up (DriveReady SeekComplete ATAPI stuff).
Using a different Brood War disk, I am able to install Brood War and the code works. However, this was using the locally compiled code, not the package (.wine was created by the package).
So proceding with the original instructions, I remove .wine, make uninstall in the source, apt-get install wine, and reinstall Starcraft and Brood War. This works fine except that if I run it from the end of the (brood war) installer, there is no sound. I am unable to replicate the original bug, sorry. :|
