Summary: Audiosurf: mouse too sensitive during gameplay compared to running in Windows Product: Wine Version: 1.3.26 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk
When playing Audiosurf using Wine, the mouse is too sensitive and it's easy to make mistakes as a result, such as hitting greys. This does not happen when running Audiosurf in Windows.

--- Comment #1 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2012-01-16 12:20:00 CST --- VERY CLOSE to being fixed. The mouse sensitivity now works much better when playing Audiosurf in Wine version 1.3.37 - and you can change the mouse speed by pressing ESC during gameplay and that works better.
Please keep up the good work. You're very close to having the mouse movement in Audiosurf working as if it were being played in Windows 7.

--- Comment #2 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2013-01-20 17:10:00 CST --- The mouse in Audiosurf is now very "slippery" during gameplay, compared to running Audiosurf in Windows 7.

--- Comment #3 from Sam Edwards CFSworks@gmail.com 2013-04-16 19:23:31 CDT --- Could you provide some more information?
What distribution are you using? What desktop environment?
Are you booting directly into Linux or are you running this inside a virtual machine? Virtual machines can sometimes have poor mouse integration.
Is the mouse movement smooth/consistent, where the player always moves the same distance with the same mouse movement, or does the movement tend to jump around?
Does adjusting the mouse speed in the settings menu make any difference?
Finally, does this problem happen with any other games, or is it specific to Audiosurf?
Thanks. :)

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, not in a virtual machine. I use Unity mostly, but also use GNOME sometimes, since Unity can make fullscreen apps puke or misbehave.
The mouse moves too fast sideways - the slightest nudge makes the player move sideways too fast. This makes it too easy to make mistakes in the game, especially when dodging the greys with the "Mono" character. In Windows 7, the player moves much slower (but not too slow) and "smoothly", not in a sudden jolt. It's best to test this game in Wine and real Windows - if possible, then you will notice the difference.
Adjusting the mouse speed in the settings does make a difference - but it just makes the character move either too fast or too slowly.
I've only discovered this problem in Audiosurf so far.
Hope that helps? :)

Can this bug be confirmed?
Either I can't reproduce it, or the change in mouse behavior is much too subtle for me to notice - Audiosurf seems to run perfectly for me. Sorry.
You said that the mouse input worked fairly well under Wine 1.3.37, and on 2013-01-20 (just after Wine 1.5.22 was released), you said it was slippery. Maybe run a regression test to identify the commit that made it become slippery? It'll take some time to do, but it would greatly help us in better understanding the problem.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.37 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.37 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
