--- Comment #4 from The Source thesource@mail.ru 2009-02-15 11:49:01 --- Very nice. So if the default settings work let's pretend that there's no problem. Nice bug tracking you have here, guys.

So if the default settings work
Exactly. If you need vista - you are welcome to get that piece of work from MS and use it.

What's the point showing that option in configuration then? If you do not support it, don't display it, very simple. Otherwise, if you are really going to support that OS emulation, don't ignore problems.
Does it work in Windows Vista?
Yes, QIP Infium works fine in Vista.

Exactly, it's still a Wine bug, reopening.
Just because Vista is Microsoft's reincarnation of Windows ME doesn't mean we don't emulate its behavior. We've fixed winetest to work on Vista, and if an app works on Vista, it should do the same on Wine when Wine runs as Vista. If not, it IS a Wine bug.

The only reason winecfg has all the windows versions list is for picky applications which require some particular windows version to see. Does QIP require Vista, or you just think it will work better if Wine reports Vista to QIP?
Otherwise, if you are really going to support that OS emulation, don't ignore problems.
There is no any change in Wine behaviour implied by the version change, Wine just reports a different windows version to the application, and that's an application who really may change its behaviour/used API coverage.

--- Comment #10 from The Source thesource@mail.ru 2009-02-16 01:35:50 --- But if app changes behaviour on different Windows versions that means app invokes functionality from that particular version. QIP works fine in Vista, so if it doesn't in wine with Vista settings, that means wine lacks some Vista functionality. But if it is so, it is likely that apps which require Vista won't work properly in wine just because it shows OS type 'Vista'. So there's really no point of showing Vista to them. It will be useful only when wine supports Vista functionality.

Right, that's why you shouldn't change the Windows version reported by Wine on a whim, and the bug severity clearly shows the importance of this bug.
