I'm using wine 0.9.60 on Ubuntu 8.04 running on x86_64. On a fresh .wine directory, when I run wine iexplore http://winehq.org, the application window appears, and I'm prompted to install Gecko, but then once it's installed, the contents of the window remain blank, save for a new widget border appearing at the top of the window contents. If the window is resized, the contents stop repainting themselves white, leaving a dark gray background after being covered. Log output files of first and second runs of the command are attached.

I'm seeing this in my feisty vm. Pretty sure this is a regression, though not sure when it started. Don't have time to investigate it ATM.
Simon, did this use to work for you?

--- Comment #4 from Simon Simon80@gmail.com 2008-04-26 00:43:07 --- I don't think I've ever tried this before. I did it while making a fresh install of Steam. It seems that this issue is also preventing me from playing Steam games, because it wants to phone home before allowing the games to run. I can check whether this works in older versions in a few days.

--- Comment #5 from Simon Simon80@gmail.com 2008-04-27 23:25:53 --- I just tested this using wine 0.9.36 [1], and it doesn't work either, though in this version, iexplore pops up a message box saying that winehq.org couldn't be found, which it doesn't do in the latest version. However, Steam does also pop up a message box in the latest version. While I haven't tried running iexplore in wine on a 32-bit kernel, I did use Steam, and the embedded browser used to work. Perhaps this is a 64-bit related issue.

--- Comment #6 from Roderick B. Greening roderick.greening@gmail.com 2008-05-02 11:33:09 --- I believe this may be 64bit related (or an isolated case).
I have a regular 32 bit system running Hardy Heron and it works for me.
Also, if you do not pass a fully quallified URI, it worn't work (i.e. winehq.org vs. http://winehq.org). Not sure if your URI included the http:// (I've made that error a few times).
Anyway, as stated, no issues using 0.9.60 (or any recent 0.9.5X) on a 32 bit system.

--- Comment #7 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-05-02 11:50:45 --- It's definitely not a 64-bit problem across the board - it works fine with 64-bit Gentoo for me.

--- Comment #8 from Anthony omega187@gmail.com 2008-05-04 12:24:16 --- I have the exact same problem. Ubuntu x64 8.04. I started with the Kubuntu 8.04 Beta about three weeks ago, and Steam worked fine for a while, but then after a few upgrades later it stopped working, and I've been getting the blank screen ever since. I can still play games, but I can't browse the store at all.

--- Comment #9 from Roderick B. Greening roderick.greening@gmail.com 2008-05-04 15:38:01 --- Perhaps this is ubuntu specific on x64 arch.
Does anyone not using ubuntu see the same issue?

I'm well aware of that, but it's not limited to x64 architecture.

--- Comment #14 from Simon Simon80@gmail.com 2008-05-09 22:16:39 --- Apparently, the presence of the lib32nss-mdns package on my system eliminates this bug. This was added as a dependency to the 0.9.61~winehq0 Debian packages:
wine (0.9.61~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-1) hardy; urgency=low
* Added lib32dns-mdns to dependencies for amd64 version - Internet applications doing domain lookups should work now on amd64 * New upstream release - Automatic updating of the WINEPREFIX directory. - Winhelp now uses Richedit as display engine. - Many RichEdit fixes. - More improvements to IME support. - More quartz fixes. - Implementation for many more Gdiplus functions. - Lots of bug fixes.
