NHL 99 doesn't crash anymore if Direct3D is selected and runs very smooth, but some graphics are corrupted. Details listed below:
- Menu transitions don't display correctly. (All transitions are black.) - Ingame, some textures are misplaced or doesn't display at all. For example, player introductions are corrupted and scoreboards have wrong textures. Players, ice, fences, roof, special effects and crowds (mostly) are drawn correctly.

Have you set global "Windows 98"-compatibility mode before installation? Game itself also needs it.

--- Comment #6 from t6tiar00@students.oamk.fi 2010-01-11 15:11:50 --- I have runned 3DSetup.exe and pressed 14 times "OK" to confirm the warning, before it allows to choice if I want to use Software Rendering or Direct3D. Then I select D3D and run the game.

--- Comment #8 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2011-06-25 08:35:35 CDT --- Is it still a bug with current wine?
If yes, does it occur with the demo http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/demo/6058-nhl-99.php

Is it still a bug with current wine?
Confirming. Still happens under wine-1.3.23. Game look playable, but the ingame menu is unreadable. Attachment shows that better.
Yes, you can see that under demo of NHL99 (i think i saw this issue even under NHL2002). Steps for the demo are easy:
1. run the setup with win ver. set to Win98
2. after that set win ver. to WinXP and run 3dsetup.exe (lot's of OK)
3. run 3dsetup.exe again and after lot's of OK you will be presented with graphics renderer menu.
4. In graphics renderer menu choose Direct3D
5. run the game as "schedtool -a 0x1 -e wine nhl99d.exe" (worked with version set to Win98 even with WinXP)

Hope that helps you. It's just first 100'000 lines of that log. Please let me know, if more is needed. It takes a lot of space on my testing partition.
