Summary: MS Money 2000: shows wrong/huge total amounts in accounts section of main page Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: andrea.vai@unipv.it
Created an attachment (id=28885) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28885) Screenshot of main Money2k page with odd totals
In the main page, the total amounts displayed next to each account name are incorrect, odd and huge: some of them are around 557.117.561.448.000€, some others are around -557.117.561.448€. If I click on an account, though, the full list of operation related to the account are displayed correctly, and the total showed is also correct. If I create a new account, it is not affected by the problem, i.e., the bug seems to apply only to existing accounts. The mny files affected by the problem used to work fine with wine 1.1.15

This probably doen't include useful info. Could you provide link for MS Money2K demo? All my searches leads to latest version only.
Or could you upload your version with the save file showing this problem? I could do the regression test for you...

Confirming the weird value with the help of Andrea.
Since 1.1.42 it is posible to run this app thanks to Juan's patch: * commit c5a6b7b36674e8b7f7dc687b01773b88fa7d7312 rsaenh: Support setting salt via KP_SALT (resend).
If i take this patch back to 1.0.1 or reported-working 1.1.15, application runs but i still see the weird value.
Juan, could you please suggest me, if this funkcionality is part of some native? The user had to do some winetricks or ies4linux things, so being able to run this application on 1.1.15. In other words do you know what i need to do to have KP_SALT funkcionlity without your patch in 1.1.15? Private communication with Andrea didn't reveal that.

I'm not aware of any way to do it. It may be possible to get a native rsaenh via e.g. winetricks ie6, perhaps by hacking winetricks to set winver to win98 first. But I haven't tried in some years to use a native rsaenh, so I don't know if it's possible.

There is a trial of Money 99 here: http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windows/Hobby/Home-Finance/ms-money99-downloa.... To install it, remove (if exists) any drive in Wine that references to "/" (or the installation it is going to take forever "searching for existing components"). When the installation finishes, you can restore them. Also it is necessary to create a DWORD key in the registry path "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Money\7.0" with the name "HelpPaneState" and value 0x280 to disable the help system, that hangs Money 99 in Wine.

I wasn't able to run the Money 99 trial. It first complains that it can't find mnyob99.dll, which I worked around by running it from the app's System directory, rather than the app's main directory. It then complained that my computer doesn't have enough memory, and quits. These are topics of a different bug, though. Unless there's an easy workaround, only someone with a copy of Money can work on this.

Same behaviour here. I realize that the only way to open an existing file when I have the patch applied is to install msmoney using winetricks msi2 fakeie6 mixed with some ies4linux. Furthermore, in that case bug does not occur.
If it can help: without the patch applied, if I use winetricks/winetricks then the bug does not occur.
All of these tests were run without the dcom98 trick described in Comment #11, I don't know if I should also mix it with the testing configurations I described above.

I agree, according to your comment16 of bug 24387
If it can help: without the patch applied, if I use winetricks/winetricks then the bug does not occur.
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Could you explain when the bug doesn't occur again? You use winetricks to install what, precisely?
sorry, I meant winetricks/ies4linux, but I used a mix of commands that I picked up on various places and the point wasn't very clear for me too.
Now I performed some other tests and I found that I can install and run msmoney, open my .mny file and the bug does not occur if I follow these steps:
install ies4linux (./ies4linux --no-gui --no-flash) rm -rf ~/.wine/* cp -r ~/.ies4linux/ie6/* ~/.wine/ ./wine winecfg (and set OS to Win98) ./wine setup.exe (install Money) ./wine "C:\Programmi\Microsoft Money\System\MSMONEY.exe" (run Money)
Basically, the reason of my mentioning winetricks is that I used to do also a sh winetricks msi2 fakeie6 before running setup.exe, but It seems to me that it's not necessary because now I tried this way and it also works without it.
Hope that's clearer now, and maybe useful to get into it. Thank you,

Well, the trouble is that we don't support ies4linux here, because it overrides so many dlls with native ones that it's hard to figure out where a bug is. If there's any way to get it to work with vanilla Wine and winetricks, that'd be much more helpful.

Bug is still present in wine-1.3.2, anyway I have found a possible workaround:
- change the account default currency from "euro" to "lira Italiana", choose to
maintain the amounts unvaried;
- select "show totals in euro" using the appropriate radio button, click "yes"
at the confirm prompt;
- change back the account currency from "lira italiana" to "euro", click "yes"
at the confirm prompt, choose again to maintain the amounts unvaried Applying these steps to each account made them show the correct totals in the main page.
BTW, I have found that this workaround has some (severe) drawbacks (probably related to the way MsMoney rounds currency values), so I would recommend not to use it.

If you use ies4linux, this bug is clearly invalid (we don't support any third-party wine wrappers here, only plain wine).
Note the regression test doesn't imply to test every version, so it doesn't take so long. And you can always use your distro's wine while doing your regression test: just make sure you use separate wineprefixes.

Regarding the regression test: the problem is that I don't know in which wine version the bug was present for the first time, because time ago I was not able to install the application without ies4linux. So, shall I do a kind of regression test on the installer itself to know what is the first wine version which can install the app without using ies4linux, and then see if the bug was already present there? I strongly guess it was...

Well, comment 5 says "If i take this patch back to 1.0.1 or reported-working 1.1.15, application runs but i still see the weird value." so I suppose 1.1.15 would be the "last known good version", and "1.2-rc3" the "first known bad version" for the regression test?
Compiling 1.1.x might be difficult on a recent distro, though. And not being able to install without ies4linux will not help of course.
Maybe you could find a binary wine package for your distribution?
Or could someone else with money 2k program available try on his/her own?

Actually the salt len is not supposed to be reset in the BASE or STRONG providers, but due to a broken test [2] (introduced by [3]) that was used to catch a true result as false the bug was not found until now.
The problem that allowed [3] to get commited is that the default provider changed after NT, so one could thought that the older OS versions were broken.
