Summary: Guild Wars seems to hang with intel X3100 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.55. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: scruffy.mogwai@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=10876) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10876) Error Messages from running wine Gw.exe
gw.exe seems to hang when running on my laptop with a Intel GMA X3100. End process does not work, have to kill. Usually get nothing. If I specify "Emulate a Virtual Desktop", I just get a blank window and still nothing happens.
Not sure if this is a driver issue (X3100 is a relatively new card).

--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-02-22 14:17:03 --- Can you test the game on another machine to see if it's a problem with the card/driver?
Severity is not critical, please read severity descriptions more carefully.

--- Comment #2 from Nick scruffy.mogwai@gmail.com 2008-02-24 01:30:07 --- Sorry about the status thing. I can confirm that it works perfectly fine on my old desktop (w/ Athlon 2800+ & GeForce 2 MX). I currently have a Lenovo Laptop (R61 w/ Intel GM965 & GMA X3100). Like I said, It might be tied up with the driver. I just don't know enough to tell you anymore. Any tips or tricks I could try that would help you/me?

--- Comment #3 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-02-24 13:00:51 --- What version of the driver are you using? It might be good to check and make sure 3d graphics is properly configured - i.e. glxgears work.
I'm not an 3d graphics expert, so I can't actually help you...

--- Comment #6 from agore187@gmail.com 2008-03-01 11:42:44 --- I can confirm this bug. I have a Sony VAIO CR220 with an Intel X3100 card (intel driver), Ubuntu Gutsy. I know I have 3d graphics configured correctly; compiz runs fine and Linux native things such as glxgears and ppracer run just fine. I have tried disabling compiz to see if that was the culprit, but I still receive the same error message of 'x11drv_main.c: X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread'

Can someone try the latest intel drivers from git? There are some bug fixes there, i.e bug 10674

--- Comment #9 from r.c.g@gmx.de 2008-04-29 16:48:29 --- Created an attachment (id=12582) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12582) Complete output of wine while starting Gw.exe
Hardware: Thinkpad x61s with intel x3100 graphics
Running: X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
With versions of the intel driver < 2.3.0 i couldn't even install Guild Wars.
After updating the intel video driver to version 2.3.0 i was able to at least install Guild Wars. Now it goes so far that the cursor changes to the Guild Wars cursor before crashing.
Attached the complete output produced by wine.
Any hints and suggestions how to help further with this issue are greatly appreciated.

--- Comment #11 from r.c.g@gmx.de 2008-05-01 04:38:38 --- Finally it runs. Using the following line to start Guild Wars works at least here: wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Guild\ Wars/Gw.exe -dx8 -dsound -noshaders
Now i'm getting lots of the following message: fixme:d3d:set_tex_op Unhandled texture operation WINED3DTOP_MODULATEALPHA_ADDCOLOR And its pretty slow at the moment no matter what resolution and detail level i choose but at least it runs. Now am going to figure out if anything can be done about the performance issue.
Xorg version and Intel driver are the latest versions described above.

After doing quite some testing here are some more results.
Now Guild Wars crashes randomly producing the "x11drv_main.c: X11DRV_CritSection" error.
After testing various combinations of registry keys and operating system settings as suggested here (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9194) i came to a combination which appeared to be "more stable" then others tested:
Operating System: Windows 98
Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER + Software + Wine + Direct3D - DirectDrawRenderer opengl - OffscreenRenderingMode pbuffer - RenderTargetLockMode auto (Default "readdraw" performed also pretty well which is default when initially choosing "auto") - UseGLSL enabled (Default since wine 0.9.49) - VideoMemorySize 256
As written above some of these values are already the default ones used by wine but explicitly setting these shouldn't hurt.

--- Comment #15 from Nick scruffy.mogwai@gmail.com 2008-11-05 17:59:42 --- It turns out that GW does not like the "Allow Pixel Shader" option. As for 1.1.7, the games sound lags to hell and eventually stops, eventually freezing the game.
Have downgraded back to 1.0.1 (the default wine package that comes with Intrepid Ibex).
At the "Select Character" screen, the graphics are a bit weird, like they are wearing semi-transparent tin-foil over their clothes.
As for gameplay, I'll have to get back to you on that one. I have a slow internet connection, so it could take a while to download a map/environment.

That would be a different bug. There's a few similar ones already that probably cover that.
At the "Select Character" screen, the graphics are a bit weird, like they are wearing semi-transparent tin-foil over their clothes.
File a new bug for that.
