--- Comment #2 from Steve gp1@sredmond.com 2009-10-13 09:48:25 --- I can confirm that Turbocad 11 running on Wine 1.1.24 continues to have this problem.
Also similar menu problem with this Turbocad's initial splash screen/menu which requires user choices.
Rendering of this screen is incorrect with portions misplaced or offscreen. Window size seems too small for contents.
Also Window level is behind, rather than in front of the main Turbocad user screen, so user must switch screens to see it. The screen does seem to be operational in that buttons not seen can be selected with the TAB key, and entered.
Finally, drawings brought into the application also have spatial rendering problems, particularly with grossly oversized text rendering, and subsequent crashes.
I am using Wine 1.1.24 on Puppy Linux 4.1.2 and NVIDIA kernel drivers for NVIDIA GEForce FX4 series card.
(This combination, by the way has led to the first successful Gold level run of IMSI's other product, DesignCAD. New entry for this first time wine app success has just been made in the AppDB today. Had hoped that Turbocad would respond as well, but the above menu problems continue to cripple it.

This is a screenshot of the opening splash screen illustrating displacement to right, transparent areas showing the desktop image (fish scales), buttons off-screen. It also has focus, but appears underneath the Larger Turbocad user interface. Because it is normally invisible, and has focus, a user cannot perform any click action in the TC UI. If that screen is minimized, this splash screen is available, and can be exited, allowing the UI to obtain focus.

This "dialog" seems to be a customized standard file open dialog.
After wine 1.1.24 some significant improvement were made with this dialog.
Can you try wine version 1.1.31?

--- Comment #7 from Steve gp1@sredmond.com 2009-10-19 21:01:54 --- Thanks for looking into this Rein.
I will try it out and report back as soon as a 1.1.31 package becomes available for Puppy Linux, which I use. I'm not able to compile a .pet or shs package myself. However these are generated by others pretty regularly, and I'll look for that version and upgrade asap.

--- Comment #8 from Steve gp1@sredmond.com 2009-10-29 09:10:11 --- I can confirm that the initial menu rendering looks correct in Wine 1.1.31.
There are still problems with correct menu and cursor focus. For instance, the main program screen overlays the initial menu screen, while the initial screen retains focus waiting for input.
The Main screen is locked because the earlier screen has focus. Minimizing the main screen allows a user to see and close the initial menu, and then use the program -- but this is not an intuitive solution to what looks like a main screen without the ability to input anything.
More serious, perhaps is that when selecting a drawing file in the initial menu, the cursor no longer acts properly. Positioning the cursor over an entry and left clicking does not select it properly. A double-click does not open the drawing, as it would normally. A double click does select the item, and a triple click is required to open it. This behavior is a change from when the menu wasn't properly displayed. Though it was difficult to see controls and menu entries, mouse click behavior was normal then.
This selection behavior seems to also occur in program file browse menus.
TurboCad's drawing rendering is now apparently correct, and text is no longer displayed as giant letters in a drawing, with displacement and artifacts -- so whatever affected proper rendering in the opening menu, seems to have fixed drawing rendering in the main program as well. This program is very close to moving from bronze to gold.
One thing that prevents a usable (if not excellent) rating is that the program seems to freeze when a user attempts to alter "lighting" in a drawing. This function cannot also be set in properties without a porogram freeze.
At any rate, great progress! Gold is in sight.....

Yes,this is still an issue.
There is a workaround but it is awkward....the dialog box should display [OK] [Cancel] [Help] but the [OK] is not visible. The tab key progresses from one button to the next so, if you select [Help] then exit the help screen with the [Esc] key then press [Tab] you will be selecting the unseen [OK] button. then press [Enter] to obtain the [OK] function.

--- Comment #12 from Ted Hansen tedhansen@sasktel.net 2013-06-09 13:48:51 CDT --- Still an issue. The dialog box "OK" button is off screen. I get around this using <tab><enter> instead of trying to "OK" from the mouse click.
.....and Steve's last comment about the lighting is still an issue....i.e. the program will lock up if you try to do anything with the lighting when viewing a rendered drawing.

The latest development version of wine is 1.7.50. That's around 2 years newer than the one you tested. Could you retry with newer wine?

--- Comment #16 from Ted Hansen tedhansen@sasktel.net --- Response to email 2015-08-26 07:19:02 CDT :
Yes, this is still an issue but a worse bug has appeared.
On Ubuntu 14.04 using wine 1.4 or 1.6 Turbocad no longer responds to the keyboard when editing a drawing. This makes the program unusable. The keyboard still works "sometimes" for instance in dialog boxes. The same problem occurs using Debian instead of Ubuntu.
Upgrading to wine 1.7 is worse, it is then not possible to get past the start-up "open file" screen.
I think this is a Debian problem. Using Ubuntu 14.04 (or the Debian on which it is based), even downgrading to wine 1.4 does not solve the problem even though Turbocad will run using wine 1.4 (and 1.6) on Ubuntu 12.04.
I do not want to try wine 1.7 on my 12.04 system because Ubuntu 12.04 is no longer supported and it is now the only system I have that will run Turbocad 7.

Please file a separate bug for any issues you encounter in 1.7.51 and mark them as blocking this one.

--- Comment #19 from Ted Hansen tedhansen@sasktel.net --- Yes, this is screenshot illustrates this bug. The workaround is use [tab][enter] to save your changes and exit the dialog box.
It happens with all pop up dialog boxes (change properties of a selected entity, etc), not just with program setup.
The other item mentioned in my last comment (non-responsive keyboard, unable to open program, etc.) can be ignored. What is actually occurring is that Turbocad is VERY slow to open, sometimes taking a minute or more, but it does work correctly (except for the dialog boxes issue) once it is up and running.
..and the program still locks up if you try to adjust the light sources for rendering an image. I would not regard this as a significant concern, however.

--- Comment #22 from Ted Hansen tedhansen@sasktel.net --- Sorry.....have tried but not able to install wine 4.4 or 4.5. Bug (re display dialog windows) still occurs with 3.0.4 on Ubuntu 18.04 as does the problem with "light sources". I will enter an updated test data.
