Bug ID: 44195 Summary: Wine crashes with Diablo II LoD, while working flawlessly for the last over 12 months Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: Other OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: kovachev.b@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 59961 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=59961 The screen pop-up, which is non-responsive and provides no further info
Used the Wine 1.6* as download/installed from official destro depository (no command line, uber-noob here) under Linux Mint for over a'year with no issues to speak of. A week ago, (soon after I'd realized D2Lod Ladder had been reset) the wine-thing started popping up an error window, which blocked soon-after the game and the entire system. This problem persists regardless of graphic card configuration and drivers, and continued on into a fresh installation of Mint 18.3 Mate 32 bit and various gpu-driver setups. Below I've attached a screenshot from the pop-up window, which when "asked" for further details displays NOTHING. Please help. A short ctr+c/ctr+v list of commands would be appreciated.

1.6.x is over three years old and no longer supported. Retest in 3.0-rc2 or later; use the WineHQ packages. https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

Well. Things just got from bad to worse. Did what the link suggested - followed the instructions to the letter. Now the crashes are even more severe. And it looks like i'll even have to do a fresh OS reinstall. It (wine) was working just fine before, still is featured in the official destro repository! These people had ONE JOB - don't mess up what's already working fine - leave that to microsoft and apple. Don't care if 1.6.2 was over 3 years old - DIABLO II is over 16 years old FFS and we were playin it on way poorer equipment, mostly without gpu's even! Was it That Hard to not mess up a light little game that used to fly on the stuped winXP!

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- If you didn't change the wine version and things broke, the bug is somewhere else, likely graphics driver or kernel.
You should probably report it to Mint.

I reinstalled a newer version of mint (was on 18.2, now 18.3) after the issues started - no improvement. The newer version of Wine only made things worse. Now how do I delete my registration from this forum. I really need to forget I even tried.

--- Comment #6 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- This is not a forum, it is a bug tracker, and accounts cannot be deleted because that would affect the history of existing bugs. The user support forum is at https://forum.winehq.org.
WONTFIX is not an appropriate resolution; NOTOURBUG or INVALID are likely, but since you appear to have decided not to pursue this, marking ABANDONED.
If you wish to reopen, reinstall your game to a clean wineprefix in current Wine and attach (don't paste) terminal output.

Over 10 fresh reinstalls of ubuntu based OS - every version of Mint from 17.1 to 18.3 and couple of Lubuntu's. Neither the direct installs from WineHQ of the latest stable branch, nor the "obsolete" (YET WORKING QUITE FINE TILL FEW WEEKS AGO) 1:1.6.2 of the destro repositories yielded any different outcome than my initially attached screen-shot. WONTFIX is not only accurate, but a bit of an understatement IM(H)O. The Nvidia drivers that your "renewed" program seems to wanna play with are crushing my old hardware and the DRIVERS I know to work with everything else are not to the refined taste of your exquisite platform. Naturally If I could afford newer hardware I would've long since moved back to actual working OS's and not needed your diluted beverage at all. So It again is probably my fault. Thank you Very Much indeed.
