--- Comment #18 from Damien Clark corodius@gmail.com 2011-05-11 12:29:50 CDT --- I feel it quite interesting that, along with the bug, the new popup was introduced saying that WINE is unsupported etc (sorry cannot remember the exact wording at the moment). Could they have possibly changed something to purposely not allow WINE to work??
I highly doubt this of course, but hell best to voice an opinion, even if it is a crazy one.
If it is a legitimate bug, I fully understand that, and also understand that they don't support WINE. However, if this is something deliberate, Trion can kiss me goodbye. :)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27125
--- Comment #19 from amgeddis@msn.com 2011-05-11 14:52:18 CDT --- One path to explore is patch 1.2 might have changed the patcher dramatically to accommodate the new "RiftConnect" feature that is now built into the patcher/launcher. RiftConnect allows you to log in to social networking mediums such as facebook or twitter which then allows Rift to post your new actions in game on the social networking site. For them to integrate this feature into the launcher and game would any significant changes need to have been made that aren't supported by wine yet? Hope this information helps someone figure out the problem.
RiftConnect is a feature Trion has been touting around for quite a while, if they need to make a change to the patcher that compromises RiftConnect for wine users to be able to log in my guess is they would be very unwilling. I think they know what the problem is even if it's not RiftConnect like I guessed but the changes required to allow wine users to connect would compromise a feature they find more important than allowing wine users to connect.

Even in Windows you can't launch Rift from rift.exe it crashes and was designed to do so. The only way to launch Rift is through the patcher riftpatchlive.exe which starts rift.exe after you've logged in.

I attempted to attach this, but the file was much too large.
I think it is worth considering that the crash occurs whether launching rift.exe directly or from riftpatchlive.exe. Perhaps it is crashing before it knows how it is being launched. If so, that would take riftpatchlive.exe out of the equation.

--- Comment #27 from amgeddis@msn.com 2011-05-11 21:42:15 CDT --- I made a log of "WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid taskset -c 0 wine riftpatchlive.exe &>/tmp/log". Agreed it is much too large, I had to pin it to one core to get it to launch without error 1026 with the debugger running. Filesize is 540.7 MB, if you think it'd be important I can upload it to a file sharing service. Here is a link to the rift forums where the forum moderator tells an individual it is impossible to launch rift.exe without the patcher. http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?153340-Load-Game-Via-Rift.exe&...

The last debug log I attached was with Wine running in Windows XP mode, this instance it was running in Windows 7 mode. The difference is that in Windows XP mode The Rift error Handler pops up and allows you to send an error report, in Windows 7 mode Wine brings up a Program Error dialog box and there is no Rift error handler.

--- Comment #37 from lomaxfalconer@gmail.com 2011-05-13 01:58:32 CDT --- they did not say it was a bug , they just said they think they found whats keeping rift from working with wine. odds are this is because it is effecting some Windows systems that they felt they had no choice but change the code.
Or they seen so many people posting about Wine on there forums and figured we are a bigger population then they first thought.

Patch hasn't been distributed yet. Gotta wait until then. :)

--- Comment #42 from Anthony Rousseau anthony.rousseau@noos.fr 2011-05-14 01:14:30 CDT --- Patch has been deployed on EU shards at least, issue _is_ fixed.
Please note: new version 1.3.20 is a no-go for the game, seems that the new mouse feature cripples something. Better to stick to 1.3.19 for now, which works like a charm.
