Bug #: 29815 Summary: Star Trek Online: Mouselook (hold right click) jumps all over Product: Wine Version: 1.4-rc1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-dinput AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: winehq.org@eternaldusk.com Classification: Unclassified
In STO, the mouselook feature is completely unusable (both in space and ground modes).
Holding the right-mouse button and moving the camera around causes the camera view to jump around erratically, commonly leaving you with a view looking directly down on your ship/person. This can make it very hard to play in space battles (you can't move the camera to see your angle to opponents); potentially suicidal in PvP.
Tested on Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2, with Wine 1.4rc1.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy-bugzilla@kievinfo.com 2012-02-06 08:33:40 CST --- Does it happen with native dinput/dinput8 dlls?

--- Comment #2 from 3vi1 winehq.org@eternaldusk.com 2012-02-07 18:23:53 CST --- Now why didn't I think of testing that...
Applying dinput8 *does* work around the issue. Thank you for that suggestion.
Is this a duplicate for an already known dinput issue? I very well could have missed it, if so, since I haven't seen this in other games and my searches prior to filing the bug were mostly specific to STO.

--- Comment #3 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy-bugzilla@kievinfo.com 2012-02-07 19:46:22 CST --- There was a bug open for Metro 2033 but it was marked "closed" when nothing really was fixed. Lets keep this one open.

--- Comment #4 from 3vi1 winehq.org@eternaldusk.com 2012-02-08 07:11:17 CST --- Agreed.
Some bad news though: Further testing shows that dinput8 did *not* fix the issue. It seemed to do so in my initial test, mouselooking around my character for a few moments in K-7. But, I went back later last night and found that it was behaving in the broken manner again - especially when in the space view.
I'm not sure why it briefly seemed fixed. I've tried testing fullscreen, windowed, windowed-but-maximized combinations to see if there was some configuration I had used in my initial test that alleviated the symptoms (since I recalled switching video settings right before logging out)... to no avail.

--- Comment #6 from rmlipman@gmail.com 2012-04-01 16:07:03 CDT --- When "Automatically grab mouse input in full screen games" is checked, this happens to me as well. I've tested this in Guild Wars and Team Fortress 2.

--- Comment #7 from sworddragon2@aol.com 2012-04-01 16:17:50 CDT --- I can't reproduce this in Guild Wars with automatical capturing enabled (Wine 1.4; X-Server 11.4; GeForce 8600 GT with the NVIDIA driver 295.33). If these components aren't updated on your system you should do this and try again.

My setup is wine 1.5.1, xserver 1.12.0, GTX 570 with nvidia driver 295.33
Are you using a virtual desktop? The mouse look jumping happens for me with a virtual desktop and the auto grab mouse setting checked.
I've always used a virtual desktop, so when I tried testing without a virtual desktop I couldn't get the keyboard to input in windowed or fullscreen.

If you've got xserver 1.12, you're likely seeing bug 30057.

--- Comment #12 from sworddragon2@aol.com 2012-04-01 17:46:43 CDT --- Technically this bug can't be a duplicate of bug #30057 because this ticket was created earlier.
@rmlipman@gmail.com: If you still have problems create a new ticket with the same technical information as here and request to add it in the Guild Wars ticket list.

My issue was bug #30057. I updated my xserver to 1.12.0.901 which fixed the x bug and it works for me again.
