Reported also by other users: -some mention can be fixed by making bUseSoftwareAudio3D=1 inside the oblivion.ini, but that doesn't work for me. -some mention trying older versions of wine engine, but that doesn't seem to help my case either.

I already tried with a minimalistic alsa config and all other possibly sound producing applications killed.
There is no pulseaudio involved on my system (Arch linux x86_64) relevant environment variables: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/oblivion
when I disable sound in Oblivion.ini, the Games runs smoothly with all eye candy enabled to the max in 1600x900.
