Bug ID: 40332 Summary: Prince of Persioa 2008 crash at intro with wine-staging csmt Product: Wine Version: 1.9.5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: fin4478@hotmail.com Distribution: ---
Similar bug in wine-staging version than in 36063. Graphics hangs in the intro sequence when Elika looks up and shuts the mouth of Prince. Sound keeps going on for a while. To kill the game, press alt+ctrl+f1 and type ps -e to find the application id. There is no trace in the terminal what happened when launching the game from a terminal. With wine 1.8.1 the game works ok.

--- Comment #2 from Sebastian Lackner sebastian@fds-team.de --- Moving to the wine-staging category. As joaopa pointed out, a regression test would be useful, but especially with CSMT it is a bit tricky. Are you aware of any other way to reproduce it?
Please note that there is currently a lot of work going on to restructure various parts of wined3d, which will also involve a partial rewrite of the CSMT patchset. After this work is done, it would be useful to retest this bug.

I updated my wine-staging to 1.9.6 and now the game intro works. I also played the rest of the story with new wine-staging without any problems. Many thanks to wine developers.
Testing with 1.9.6 is a bit pointless because CSMT has been disabled in this version of Wine Staging. It would be nice if you could retest after the patchset has been reenabled or the feature is accepted upstream. ;) See http://www.wine-staging.com/news/2016-03-21-release-1.9.6.html for more details.
You are running $$$ graphics cards, so disabling csmt is no suprice. Thousands of people are not. I did try to find 1.9.5 debian packages but did not find. 1.7.55 is the newest one here: https://repos.wine-staging.com/debian/pool/main/w/wine-staging/ What to do if end users want to have latest wine-staging with csmt available?

Actually CSMT helps with CPU-side bottlenecks, so a fast GPU should generally see more performance improvement with CSMT. If the GPU is slow enough you might not see much if any performance difference with or without CSMT.

Tested with wine-1.9.11 (Staging) and now it works past intro sequence and I did play to the first saving point after fighting in the temple.
