I installed this software from mio.com, and it appears in the Wine drive, but
crashes at login.  I have tried with Win 7, 8 10 and get the same result.  It
starts then gives me the message that Wine has encountered a serious problem
and needs to close.

wine-5.0 is already a year and a half old, please try with the wine-6.x series.

The Mint repository for Winehq 6 seems to be unsigned, so I cannot update my
version of Wine via apt.

I didn't have any issues setting it up on Linux Mint 20.2. The key is in the
wiki page I linked.
