i am running wine to use tdxw.exe (stock software) for a long time. i installed simsun.ttf to show chinese fonts, before wine 1.5.18 this app disaplay fonts very clearly. but using wine 1.6.x\1.7.x this app display fonts very fuzzy, dialog fonts display normal. my os box is debian7. i have tried disable fontconfig anti-aliasing and wine anti-aliasing, replaced many other ttf fonts, nothing changed. see blow sample photo. how to fix it?

Does it help if you set font replacement to 'WenQuanYi Micro Hei' for 'SimSun' font? See http://wiki.winehq.org/FontReplacements for reference.

My os is debian7 stable, build wine from source.

I have tried many ttf fonts, such as WenQuanYi, msyh, Hiragino Sans GB etc. this problem is still there.

this problem is happend in wine 1.6/1.7, and above 1.5.21.

Other wine versions(0.x ~ 1.5.18) does not exist this problem, fonts shows cleary.

It's seems wine using new fonts rendering method.

Install and run TdxW.exe (require MFC42.DLL), then select label "独立行情" -> "试用".

It works fine for me on Ubuntu 12.04.2 with Wine 1.7.16, with Font Replacement correctly set.

I guess this is a user misconfigured problem rather than Wine bug, but I don't have idea which part is wrong, maybe some special fontconf setting, maybe bitmap font is missing. If you could do a regression test as comment #1 said, we may have some idea which part is wrong; other wise you could try to install TdxW on Ubuntu with Wine ppa and see if it works, and then compares with your debian to see which package/configure is different, maybe that will be a lot of work.

Maybe some more experienced developers have better idea :)

if you use wine1.4 or wine1.5.18, you will see the big difference.

it's myabe wine 1.6/1.7 using new way to render ttf fonts.

About screenshots you attached:

This one looks like grayscale AA rendering to me, most likely with hinting enabled, that makes certain parts lighter than they should be.

This one is aliased, using bitmaps or not depending on particular font.

I'm using debian(always), tde(kde3 fork), English fonts (dejavu, liberation), Chinese fonts is wqy-microhei, wqy-zenhei for wine1.6~1.8rc, simsun for wine1.5.x~1.0.x. fongconfig settings defaults always. wine no font replacement because this software could replace fonts itself. By default font settings tde/gtk2/gtk3 app shows english/chinese fonts clearly.
