Older Demo of the Protel f/Windows v.2.5 doesn't start at all.

Some Wine versions ago (I do not remember exactly) there wasn't any problem at
all with this Protel Demo version.

Both packages need to be unpacked to one directory.

I could not find any way to download this, the older Protel site required
filling a form to download so that does not work nowadays. Is this still an
issue in the latest development version of wine?

Yes, it is.
You can download both of the above attachments, unpack them in the same
directory and check it yourself.

This is weird.

I have 2 different wines installed.

One compiled from git.
And one from ubuntu ppa.

I can start this program with ubuntu wine.

And git version says:

winevdm: Cannot start DOS application
Z:\home\jarkko\Downloads\ga\protel-demo-1of2\pfw.exe
         because the DOS memory range is unavailable.
         You should install DOSBox.

Ubuntu ppa is 1.7.18

and compiled wine-1.7.18-76-gcfb81f2

Works fine in wine 1.7.33, also works in 1.6, 1.3.22 and 1.2.3. It could be
something that was broken and fixed between the versions I tested. I don't have
1.3.6 to test.

This issue is actually a regression introduced by
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/44fbc018eda12bdee5c2c1e2e40dbdc...,
and has nothing to do with the issue for which the bug report was originally
opened. Just sent a patch to fix it:
http://source.winehq.org/patches/data/109519. Requires full "make clean" and
rebuild, otherwise the changes do not take effect.

BTW both app versions worked fine with Wine 1.3.37 (oldest release I was able
to build on modern distros without major backports/hacks). So it might have
been indeed just a few old Wine 1.3.x releases when it was broken (Bruno
