I then click on the close button and the window continues to pop back up causing my system to become unstable.

Are you by chance running a 64-bit build of wine?
Yes, I had to build it that way, when I tried to build it regularly, it wouldn't finish ./configure

You probably don't want that. You should figure out why you can't build as 32-bit and fix that.
Anywho, it's still a valid bug. I get a crash as well. Confirming.

--- Comment #5 from Bryan Christ bryan.christ@gmail.com 2009-11-11 11:29:51 --- I'm confirming this bug too. Fortunately Fedora offers both i586 and x86-64 packages so I just install both. running "wine32 winecfg" worked. it would definitely be nice to have this fixed for wine 1.2

--- Comment #8 from R. Nicolás López nico89abc@gmail.com 2009-12-20 15:26:06 --- When trying to access the audio tab, an message box appears. It says that there is no specified audio driver in the registry. It also says that a recommended controller were selected for the user. After closing the msgbox, it crashes.
In my personal case, after closing the "Program Error" dialog, something crashes again and the "Program Error" appears again and again. The only way to stop this is killing the wine process.
Good luck

--- Comment #13 from J.J. Kondrich procxp@yahoo.com 2010-04-02 11:25:14 --- I get this same error, but it's a bit tidier. I get the sound driver error, then get the second error, then wine simply crashes.
I've noticed that "wine32 winecfg" allows me to access the audio tab (although I still get the first error message, I can still change and apply). I used this to change my driver from PA to alsa, but I still can't open anything in wine. Maybe my bug is something more than this one?
Also, I'm using Fedora 12 (constantine) GNOME 64 bit, but am trying to work wine in 32 bit because 64 bit wine is... well... it's 64 bit wine.
