Summary: AppDB generates too much work for Administrators Product: WineHQ Apps Database Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: appdb-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jeffz@jeffz.name
I spend a few minutes nearly every day approving half a dozen test results but there is more people submitting test results than anyone has time to care to read each individual report.
99% of the test results that people submit where there is no maintainer for the application are OK and don't need to be manually approved.
I propose that the AppDB be changed to simply accept new test results when there is no maintainer and not require moderation.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-11-24 13:28:36 --- I disagree. While I neglect my appdb duties, when I do check the test data, many give platinum ratings to apps with a crapton of native workarounds/hacks, while others give something a garbage rating for not including mfc42 on its own.
If anything, more volunteers to administrate would be the way to go.

I guess this could also work. If you have anyone in mind and they are interested, as an administrator you can make other users administrators too through their users preferences page.

--- Comment #3 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2008-11-24 18:58:00 --- I'd like to volunteer. I'm already a maintainer for several apps, so I know how to screen submissions. I'm also interested in helping to clean up some of the unmaintained entries (without having to take everything on as a maintainer).

I was actually about to send you a PM on the forum to ask you :-).
Have fun.

--- Comment #5 from handsomepete jeff.mitchell+WINE@gmail.com 2008-12-01 10:56:57 --- I'd be happy to volunteer however I can. Kinda new to Wine so still figuring out what's what - presently trying to associate bugs in the bug list with entries in the appdb (thus presumably generating a portion of the work you're talking about). Shoot me an email if you have anywhere I can help out on the administration side of appdb.

I've sent follow-up emails to both of you and Rosanne is doing an excellent job, I'll mark this as fixed.
