Bug #: 33760 Summary: Jagged edges on most text and art in the Touhou 14 demo Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: murela_alba@abv.bg Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 44705 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=44705 windows 7 main menu 960x720
When running the "Touhou 14 ~ Double Dealing Character" demo (ver 0.01a) on any resolution other than the highest (1280x960), pretty much all text displays varying degrees of aliasing. Same goes for the edges of all the 2D art and UI elements from the loading screen, to the main menu, to the game proper. Here's the title screen on windows 7 in 960x720 (windowed).

And here's the same on Ubuntu 13.04 (64-bit) in wine 1.5.30. The effect gets more noticeable in fullscreen mode and in the lowest resolution.

Here's what the terminal says.

Same thing happens in every wine version since at least 1.4.1, except that one gives a lot less warnings.

--- Comment #4 from Andrew Fan andrewsuicune@gmail.com 2013-06-09 08:30:18 CDT --- I have gotten those same fix me errors from multiple Touhou games. Is the bug present on Windows? Personally, I think that this bug is related to the demo itself, not wine. Remember that since this is ZUN's first High Resolution game and since most images are being shrunken for lower resolutions, it may not be wine.
P.S. The images you posted as having the bug are not High Res. So it is natural that they blur on 960x720, which is 1.5x size for those specific images.

--- Comment #5 from murela_alba@abv.bg 2013-06-09 13:24:22 CDT --- I get most of those messages on all Touhou games as well, but not the "Unhandled filter 0x30004" - that's unique for th14. Most of the other games also have similar problems, but only with one specific font (see Bug 33761), never with things like character portraits. You can see from the first image that all the edges are smooth on windows, unlike in wine, so it's obviously not from the demo.
I don't understand your last comment - the images are as displayed when running in 960x720 windowed mode, so why would they be stretched. As a matter of fact they are slightly compressed vertically due to window decorations and the unity bar reducing the available lines to less than 720, but I see the same differences between windows and wine in fullscreen mode as well. And wine clearly doesn't blur the edges at all, hence the ugly look. I'm guessing it's failing to run some kind of smoothing filter for whatever reason.

--- Comment #6 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2013-06-09 13:54:48 CDT --- Does native d3dx9 make it any better?

--- Comment #7 from murela_alba@abv.bg 2013-06-09 15:38:35 CDT --- Yes, it appears using native d3dx9_36 fixes it, as well as most of my issues with the earlier touhou games.

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.37 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.37 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).

--- Comment #10 from Andrew Fan andrewsuicune@gmail.com --- I tried to obtain the demo via the official site but it's so old that all the mirrors are dead. As long as this bug is not present in the full version of the game (1.00b), there should be no issues with this bug's abandonment.
