Summary: Ares does not connect to its server Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: Other URL: http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/ OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wininet AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com
I downloaded Ares and tried to use it, only to be unable to connect to their servers. I have set up ports to correspond to my router, but it still doesn't connect. This is weird as it does connect when I use Ares in Windows. Somoeone has already complained of this issue as well, look in AppDB for more info.

Oddly enough, the Internet tab (which is a web browser) is able to navigate to websites and works just fine. Ares itself does not connect to its network no matter how much time passes by.

--- Comment #2 from Jaime Rave jaimerave@gmail.com 2008-07-09 15:22:33 --- I'm having the same problem, the workaround to make it work was to set wine to WinME but it's not working anymore.

Same problem with Wine 1.1?

--- Comment #4 from Hubmaster Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com 2008-07-10 21:56:47 --- Yes, still present in 1.10. Seems like from AppDB, 0.9.58 seemed to work fine. I'll do a regression test in the coming days to see what's wrong.

--- Comment #5 from Jaime Rave jaimerave@gmail.com 2008-07-15 18:31:34 --- I have tested with wine 1.1.1 and it only works when setting Wine to emulate WinME. In any other version Ares just detect the IP address 127.0.0.1 and don't connect.

--- Comment #6 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2008-07-19 06:54:08 --- Ares is currently experiencing problems connecting even from Windows.
Several sites are reporting the issue: http://marketfederation.com/cant-connect-to-ares/ Ares's forum on Sourceforge (my ISP's proxy is giving met gateway timeouts on it, I'm unable to post a direct link)

--- Comment #7 from Hubmaster Hubmasterflex@hotmail.com 2008-07-19 22:40:20 --- Thanks Jaime, Ares does connect when Wine is emulating ME but I remember that in Wine 0.9.3.x, Ares used to connect with any version of Windows. It seems like what you said is true; with other versions of Windows, Ares is looped to a LAN connection, therefore it doesn't connect.

--- Comment #8 from Marcelo Fernández fernandezm22@yahoo.com.ar 2008-07-26 09:25:25 --- With Wine 1.1.1 I had suffered this bug. I updated to 1.1.2 today and now Ares can connect to its network without problems. :-)
I think Wine 1.1.2 solved this bug.
(Platform: Ubuntu 8.04.1, AMD64).
Cheers Marcelo

It was in Windows 98 mode...
Back in Windows 2000 mode, I did not connect in several hours.

I am using Windows XP mode, and since I updated to wine 1.1.2, Ares (vanilla version, 2.0.9) can connect to its network almost instantaneously.
I uploaded a screenshot here: http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pantallazoares2093030pamd3.png
I'm using an 64 bits OS...

--- Comment #15 from Gert van den Berg wine-bugs@mohag.net 2008-09-14 22:41:20 --- Ares is not connecting under Windows either, it probably not a Wine issue... (I tested under Virtualbox)

--- Comment #16 from Jaime Rave jaimerave@gmail.com 2008-09-19 20:56:20 --- In my Windows XP box is working, in fact under the network tab it should appear the pc ip and Ares under Wine is taking a weird ip addres so I think this bug is not fixed yet.
