Whenever I use wine my background turns black and I have to logout hen log back
in to fix it.

This occurs with any program?

Does:
$ mv ~/.wine ~/.wine.bak
$ wine notepad

have the same problem? If so, check your video drivers...Probably a driver bug.

It doesnt do the same thing with notepad so must be a driver issue.
