What Wine version? Attach (as a text file) complete terminal output. What you attached doesn't say anything.

Wine was 1.1.33, newly installed. The attachments are all I saw from the problem. If there is/should be a log I'll be happy to repeat the run and retrieve it. The MS-style report detail has a lot of hex but I don't know how to get it out of the small window.

--- Comment #5 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2009-11-27 13:42:56 --- The output suggests that the problem is a duplicate of bug 10467. If you need to install the .NET Framework 2.0 on Wine, use the winetricks (http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks) script.

--- Comment #9 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-11-27 17:25:44 --- You would need to try it on a clean wineprefix (remove/rename ~/.wine directory), install with winetricks .net2.0 Don't install anything else just because you think it's nice to have.

OK - I'll do that, but . . .
The package from sfrep.com was ai8.3.exe (the target app) plus seven .7zip files. I understood the seven .7zip files were to be in the same directory and they would be used only if needed. At that point wine was clean and I got the output as attachment 2.
I then got rid of created files and directories from the first run, and renamed the .7zip files out of the way. I used winetricks to load the six picks that matched the needs represented by the .7zip files. Installing the sfrep app yielded attachments 3, 4 and 5.
There were no nice-to-have winetricks selections.
ai8.3.exe
microsoft internet explorer 6 with service pack 1.7zip
microsoft mdac refresh 2.8.7zip
microsoft .net framework 2.0.7zip
microsoft visual basic virtual machine 6.0 with service pack 6.7zip
microsoft visual c++ runtime 6.0 with service pack 6.7zip
microsoft visual c++ runtime 6.0 with service pack 6 (includes atl and mfc).7zip
microsoft windows installer 3.1.7zip
Note: Above seven zip files were renamed with prepend “x-” before winetricks.
Winetricks marked for Net 2.0 SP 2 IE 6 MDAC 2.8 Installer 3.1 VB 6 Runtime VC 6 SP4 (Libs . . .)

Half way thru ai8.3.exe application install I get window "winevdm.exe encountered serious error" with an OK button. Not hitting the button in some number of seconds will log that a thread was timed out. The entire prcess never moves from that point.
If I rerun from the clean wine case and click the button in time then the install runs to completion and the application (at least with superficial testing) seems to operate - notwithstanding the winevdm.exe problem and a large number of wine "errs" and "fixmes".

--- Comment #14 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2010-08-05 13:29:13 --- Hello,
installs without problems in clean WINEPREFIX here. 'winetricks dotnet20' is required prerequisite.
wine-1.3.0-166-g277040d
All other missing runtime deps are automatically downloaded and successfully installed. Reopen if installer problem can be reproduced with _recent_ Wine version.
