Summary: Endnote 7 wont work Product: Wine Version: 0.9.44. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: wine-resources AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ffrindiau@gmail.com
Regression.
Hi, (this is my first report, so I hope its OK)
I am trying to get Endnote 7 Demo Version to work on (k)ubuntu Feisty Fawn. After installing into Wine which goes smoothly program fails to run at all.
Logs suggest that the problem (or at least the first one) is this; Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
I have no idea what this means. The full shell output is available as an attachment inside the TAR file. Also as an attachement is the ENDnote 7 demo as a zip file, as its quite hard to find on the web.
Endnote software errors are also reported in errors ID. 3173 and 8003 but this is a different error it seems. Previously according to APPDB reports EndNote 7 was working (last known working date though is 2004) so I don:t know where the break occurred. Frank:s corner also reports ENDNote 7 demo to be working (Wine Version: 0.2.22)
Your help is very much appreciated. Endnote is a common tool for scientists especially as it is almost integrated into the most common online literature search site (web of science). Like many I can:t live without it and therefore scientists like me can:t move to Linux even though I want to.
Thanks

OK can:t get Endnote in here. I found its available to download on mininova or torrentspy (demo versions) so suprisingly its legit. Both demo and paid for versions however have the same problem. I have both the original and demo versions and I get the same problem from both. THanks

This means that you need to either run wineprefixcreate, or remove ~/.wine and start from a clean start.

--- Comment #3 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2007-08-29 11:09:07 --- The backtrace shows it's an unimplemented function in gdiplus. Changing component accordingly. Reporter, you can probably work around this doing: wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks ./winetricks gdiplus and running the app again. Also, this isn't a blocker.

--- Comment #4 from Steffan ffrindiau@gmail.com 2007-08-29 20:27:12 --- Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. At first I tried Dmitry`s method and that resolved the problem with Endnote working correctly. I then realised however that the reason it was working is that a device driver gdiplus.dll had appeared in the Endnote program folder. This is what Juan suggested I think. Anyway, the result is that there is no need to run a Wineprefixcreate routine in this case as having the device driver alone was enough to make it work.
So thanks to both of you for getting this to work.
Note for future users, Endnote 7 does not need to be installed in Wine to work, just drag a copy into your Wine folder (make sure you have a gdiplus.dll in your Endnote program folder as well) and then it should work straight.
