Bug ID: 40471 Summary: wine staging makes laptop run REALLY hot Product: Wine-staging Version: 1.9.7 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: jrwillette88@gmail.com CC: erich.e.hoover@wine-staging.com, michael@fds-team.de, sebastian@fds-team.de Distribution: ---
I am trying to play Age of Empires 2 on voobly and I couldn't get it to work with regular wine. I followed the instructions below to make it work...
https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/2zyogr/how_to_playing_aoe_ii_on_voobl...
But when I play the game, even just the game not on voobly, my laptop becomes really hot (~80C), meanwhile if I play it on plain old wine it stays really cool which it should (I have 2015 MacBookAir) playing a game form the 90's, but it will not work on voobly.
I would like to get to the bottom of the heat issue if possible, but I have no way to follow up with what is making it overheat and what I can do about it.
Any ideas?

The wine version installed via brew was 1.8.1
If I do a regular build of 1.8.1 (non-homebrew) then AOE runs really hot, any build of wine I have tried thus far, will run hot when playing AOE, everything except the brew installation.
All that needs to be done to recreate this is to install the latest version of wine and try running the game, after about 3 minutes of gameplay, my processor temp goes up to ~80C as opposed to ~40C on the homebrew install of wine.

Perhaps a diff between plain and homebrew versions may help. In addition there might be some difference in the build flags or build environments.

--- Comment #4 from jeff jrwillette88@gmail.com --- added the above attachment which I think is the build flags (?)...
anyway I ca see it is pulling plain wine 1.8.1 from winehq so it must be something with the build, could it be an X11 issue?
