With bug 14287 fixed, the Windows Live Essentials installer starts up, but aborts after showing a loading screen for a moment with the following error message:
Couldn't install programs Please try installing Windows Live programs again. Error: OnCatalogResult: 0x80004001 Next steps: an unknown error occurred.
Clicking "close" on this error dialog results in a crash.
A workaround is 'winetricks ie6'. The culprit appears to be mshtml:
* Removing all overrides added by winetricks except mshtml doesn't bring back the error (though there's a failure shortly afterward unless native urlmon is used) * Removing only the override for mshtml makes this error return
The following line appears in terminal output as the error message appears:

Bug 19004 looks fixed to me, as both of those installers start with no native overrides in wine-1.2-rc5-80-gee68473. This bug is for the next problem in the Essentials installer; the Messenger 8.5 installer appears to be failing from an unrelated problem (winetricks ie6 doesn't help).

The next problem (failure when accepting EULA) is the urlmon problem I mentioned originally, and there's another mshtml failure later, I'll file more bugs for those.
