I played the cell stage, before leaving that stage, i saved. Upon leaving the game crashed. I restarted, loaded the save and left the stage again. And crashed again. Is this what you did?

As far as I know, the trial is just the creature editor. I.e. no cell stage or any real gaming at all. So this crash cant be reproduced in the trial version.

--- Comment #8 from Bartek Iwaniec hash87@gmail.com 2008-09-07 16:22:12 --- I've noticed that setting lighting effects to lowest makes the game not to crash at all. About further crashes connected with lighting effects, i've noted them on following stages of game:
1. Leaving the cell stage. 2. Leaving the creature stage. 3. In tribe stage - switching minimap to different tribe - 90% to crash
However i was playing the whole civilization stage with lighting effects set to maximum and no crashes at all. Advancing from civilization stage also doesn't crash the game.

This worked atleast for me, thank you.

--- Comment #11 from anonymous-scsi scs_i@hotmail.co.uk 2008-09-08 16:26:50 --- This might not be Wine-specific; see "digg.com/pc_games/Spore_seriously_buggy_completely_unplayable_by_thousands/who"
Still, if we can get our workaround out before EA or MS, that might contradict the popular belief that Wine can't run anything.

--- Comment #12 from Floppie floppie@quadra-tec.net 2008-09-08 23:37:14 --- I'm currently crashing when I leave the cell stage to enter the creature stage - other than that, stage changes aren't causing any trouble. I crashed one other time a few seconds after beginning the civilization stage, but it wasn't during the transition - seemed to be random.
Lighting effects are off - in fact, all graphics are turned down to the minimum.

--- Comment #13 from Rich Rincebrain@gmail.com 2008-09-28 22:32:49 --- Apparently fixed in git - http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=f84680e66c298b93b1cf78515c...
I'll build a round of Wine GIT in the next day or two to confirm someone's report, then close this.
