Bug ID: 44455 Summary: Grandia 2 movies don't play. Product: Wine Version: 2.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: SolisX007@yahoo.com Distribution: ---
On wine-2.1 - wine-3.0 Grandia 2 movies don't play. It was working fine on wine-2.0. I installed direct X,active movies and icodecs from the link below.
http://howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/install-directx-9-0c-on-linux-using-wine
wine-2.1 Bad wine-2.0 Good
I don't have a 32 bit system step up to test right now. I will have to wait and see when i can get a system ready to do a regression test.
Please note that you need to delete the .wine directory every time. If you install the direct x with wine-2.0 then remove wine-2.0 and install wine-3.0 the movies will work. It's when you create a .wine directory with wine-2.1+ that the movies don't work.
Tested with NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.25.run Geforce 430 GT.

Please test with wine 3.2
Tried wine-3.2. Issue remains. If i don't configure a .wine directory wine with wine-2.0. Grandia movies fail to run.

--- Comment #4 from Lunknown SolisX007@yahoo.com --- The movies do play in wine-3.0 if you configure the wine directory with wine-2.0 1st. The issue is that something is not being installed properly. I'm not sure if it's directx or the codecs.

--- Comment #5 from Lunknown SolisX007@yahoo.com --- I believe what is causing the issue is the registry in wine-3.0 is encrypted. So the registry file i was trying to load would not load because the registry file was not encrypted.

What do you mean by that? Wine registry is stored in plain text, what was encrypted?

I can no longer use an text editor to see the text in a reg. When i open a reg file i use to see this.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\DllOverrides] "amstream"="native" "quartz"="native"
Now when i save a reg and try and open it with a text editor i see this.

--- Comment #8 from Lunknown SolisX007@yahoo.com --- Also i would add that newer wine regedit does not understand the plain text reg files. If i try to import them it's going to tell you it's not a valid reg.

--- Comment #10 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
Using native DLLs is not a fix.
Please retest without DLL overrides and attach a WINEDEBUG=+quartz,+gstreamer,+strmbase,+d3d9,+d3d debug trace. Instructions to get a debug trace can be found there: https://wiki.winehq.org/Debug_Channels
If you have trouble with the ~new~ 'Windows Registry Editor 5.0' UTF-16 file format, try to select 'REGEDIT4' as the file type when exporting.
If a crash prevents testing the video playback, file a new bug for that and attach the terminal output there.
regards.
