--- Comment #6 from razmoudah@yahoo.com 2009-06-29 18:08:35 --- I have Ubuntu 9.04, though I'm uncertain as to which version of Wine I have (the download page claimed it was a beta version) but I downloaded and installed it earlier today (29JUN2009). So far I've only had one program successfully run on it (ZSNESW) but I've had the same problem with Risk II. I'm continuing on to testing others, though I'm starting to think I may be better off running a dual-boot system for now (I got sick of the problems in Crapdows, and now hardly anything seems to work in Wine as well).

--- Comment #7 from Jaime Rave jaimerave@gmail.com 2009-10-20 21:11:13 --- Still a problem in Wine 1.1.31. Any log that I can attach to make this bug go a little further?

--- Comment #8 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-05-14 11:13:29 --- Still crashes while loading in Wine-1.1.44, using built-in amstream.dll, devenum.dll and quartz.dll.
Workaround: 1. you need native quartz.dll ('winetricks quartz') 2. place native amstream.dll & devenum.dll into the system32 directory, register them with regsvr32.exe, then override them to native. Now the game starts up correctly.

--- Comment #9 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-08-03 11:18:29 --- The crash on startup issue can also be avoided by passing the '-noavi' command line parameter to the game executable. This will instruct the game to not play the intros/company logos. No dll overrides are needed in this case.
However, the game will eventually crash at the end of each scenario you win or lose. There is another avi file is intended to play there, which uses the Intel Indeo codec v5. Native quartz, amstream, devenum dlls don't help here.
Wine-1.3.0

--- Comment #10 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-11-13 05:14:50 CST --- Created an attachment (id=31893) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=31893) terminal output Wine-1.3.7 native amstream.dll
The game still crashes on startup, using Wine-1.3.7. I started from scratch with a clean Wine prefix: the gstreamer related fixmes informed me about the missing codecs; the intro videos are in avi formats and coded by Cinepack. So I installed the gstreamer-ffmpeg plugin via the package manager. That seemed to fulfil the requirements but now I received a crash, probably because of several amstream.dll stubs. After installing native amstream.dll the crash occurs a bit later, now the log contains a bunch of gstreamer and quartz related fixmes, too. Afterwards I tried with native devenum and quartz dlls but I still receive a page fault.
Now only the -noavi command line parameter is the only workaround.

--- Comment #12 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-04-29 05:40:30 CDT --- In Wine-1.5.3 the game no longer crashes on startup, but videos still don't play: the game loads directly to the main menu, gracefully skipping the intro video.
