On a fresh install of Ubuntu 64bit Jaunty
1. wineboot crashing ( and advising to report bug ) 2. mount manager in winecfg not working
i've tried sudo rm -rvf ~/.wine wine notepad
with same results

If building from vanilla source fixes the problem, but rebuilding the package from source doesn't, then we have a packaging issue.

Looks like it's the problem with the package. As reported in the bug 18813 the package doesn't ship/install wine.inf.
