Summary: Total Commander: Application opens a window which should be visible but is hidden by the current window Product: Wine Version: 1.1.41 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: alexandru.balut@gmail.com
1. Click (menu) Commands -> Search, to open the "Find Files" window. 2. Click the "Advanced" tab, click "Date between:". 3. Click the ">>" button to open the "Date:" window. This bit is annoying, because it's a bit random.. the "Date:" window is normally visible (see attached screenshot), but sometimes it is hidden. 4. In case it's visible, while it is still open, click the "Find Files" window, then click ESC. 5. Now, whenever you click the ">>" button, the "Date:" window is opened but it is hidden. You can also notice that after you click ">>", the "Find Files" window still appears as focused (even though the hidden "Date:" window has the focus now), and when you click it, it is (properly) redrawn as not focused.
The "Date:" window should always be visible when opened.
Total Commander 7.50a shareware System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects -> None

--- Comment #3 from Alex Balut alexandru.balut@gmail.com 2010-04-10 21:00:59 --- Created an attachment (id=27323) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27323) "Connection details" window opened behind the "Connect to ftp server" window
Another set of steps for reproducing the bug (these ones are easier to execute): 1. Ctrl F (Connect to ftp server) 2. Click "New connection..." and ESC a few times, and notice the "FTP: connection details" window appears in the front. 3. Click "New connection...", click the title of the "Connect to ftp server" window, click ESC. Now, everytime you click "New connection..." the window is opened in the back (see the 2nd attached screenshot).
I'm using the default Ubuntu Karmic Koala window manager, I think it's Metacity.

--- Comment #4 from Alex Balut alexandru.balut@gmail.com 2010-04-10 21:02:44 --- btw, also happens in wine-1.1.42

--- Comment #5 from Alex Balut alexandru.balut@gmail.com 2010-04-25 15:49:10 --- Created an attachment (id=27554) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27554) The small window should always be in front of the main window, but you can see it in the back
Somebody please try to reproduce the bug following the steps in comment 3, or these ones, which describe a similar result:
- Start Total Commander 7.50a - NOT REGISTERED, notice the main window and the "This program is Shareware" window appear. - Press the "Program information", notice a help window appears, ignore it or move it away. - Press the title bar of the main TC window, notice the small "This program is Shareware" window goes behind the main window (see attached screenshot). On XP it stays in the front.

I've tested it on a default Ubuntu 10.04, Wine 1.1.42. The splash screen and the Date chooser also goes to the background.

Hi Alex, there have been some changes which fixed similar behavior in between 1.2-rc1 and 1.2-rc2. Could you retest under latest git?

Tried with wine-1.3.13, all new windows open on top of the "parent" window.
But when I start the registered version of Total Commander 7.56a, it shows for a brief moment a small splash screen window (on top of all the other windows on the screen), then the main window of the application appears in between the existing windows (see the attached screenshot). (The splash screen window is hidden after the main window is displayed.)

--- Comment #11 from Rafal Stanilewicz washuu@eastnews.com.pl 2012-01-09 00:13:33 CST --- I confirm this as of wine 1.3.36. Date chooser window can easily go into background, and be completely covered by main window, in spite of being focused on (i.e. can receive keyboard events).

I'm sure I have seen similar bugs before. The problem is that the date window is modal and so the parent window should not be able to receive focus.

--- Comment #13 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- Is this still an issue in current (1.7.35 or newer) wine? If so, please attach terminal output.
