--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-11-12 17:38:55 --- Does it work with an older version of Wine? From AppDB, it looks like lots of people have it working.

I have tested C&C3 for a while waiting the cursors to be visible, I haven't seen this before.

--- Comment #4 from Dan Jones djones9960@gmail.com 2009-01-19 05:54:49 --- Hi
I got exactly the same error output as this when I attempted to run C&C3 with the original (1.0) version of the game, installed straight off the DVD with the latest dev version of wine.
However, I downloaded the 1.9 patch from filefront (the 'check for updates' button from autorun.exe didn't seem to work) and once I installed that, the game worked a treat(well, sort of; the animated cursors don't animate and the games seems much, much slower than when run under Windows - I had to turn down all the detail settings and set the resolution to 800x600). I didn't even need to do the gamecopyworld nodvd trick. :)
So, have you tried patching the game?

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-04-06 23:07:20 --- Created an attachment (id=20324) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20324) Wine 1.1.18 console output for Demo, 1.0 and 1.9 w/ & w/o DX9
CNC3 v1.0 causes an unhandled exception apparently in D3D. The appdb HOWTO suggests using a native d3dx9_29.dll but that makes no difference whatsoever. Tried "winetricks directx9" and the unhandled exception still occurs.
CNC3 v1.9 fills the console with D3D fixmes and exits without error message. Tried native d3dx9_29.dll but this makes no difference as before. Tried "winetricks directx9" and although the output is slightly different, the result is the same.
CNC Demo exits without any error messages, similar to v1.9. http://files.filefront.com/Command+Conquer+3+Tiberium+Wars+Demo/;6821954;/fi...
Tested in Wine 1.1.18.
Logs for each version attached.

--- Comment #7 from H. Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2009-04-07 06:14:23 --- It seems 1.9 tries to use faultrep to report the exception. The log implies that you've disabled GLSL though, any reason for that?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16016
--- Comment #8 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-04-07 10:42:42 --- I was going to mention that but forgot. GLSL is enabled (by default), I don't know why Wine says it is not.
Set UseGLSL=enabled to be certain, but the message still appears.
fixme:d3d_shader:IWineD3DVertexShaderImpl_SetFunction Which this OpenGL implementation does not support. Try using GLSL

No, native dll(s) is not a fix.

I have noticed that installing the 1.09 Patch is resolving this issue. Unfortunately, the software hangs because of ALSA, which brings me to bug ID #19159, which can be solved by disabling the ALSA driver and enabling OSS. Unfortunately, no sound is coming out with OSS driver.
