Bug #: 33418 Summary: League of Legends: In-Game chat invisible Product: Wine Version: 1.5.28 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: fox@luxx-area.de Classification: Unclassified
Hey folks,
overall League of Legends is running quite awesome through wine. 80-100fps at lowest Detail settings in 1920x1200.
Issue: When being in an actual game the in-game chat is invisible. However, the timestamps and names are displayed without problems, just the actual text-messages are not visible. When opening the chat-input you can see what you type but just the moment when you hit enter and the message is being send - the text disappears, only timestamp and name are displayed in the chat-log.
Steps to reproduce: Start the game, join/create a game, press "enter" to open the chat-input, type a message and press "enter" again to send it. Message is not displayed in chat.
System: Intel i5-2500k 24GB DDR3 Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 Nvidia GTX660ti Crucial M4 256GB
OS: ArchLinux x64 with XFCE4 + compton open-gl compositor
Wine: Wine 1.5.28 with some lol-specific Patches. Downloaded and Compiled from here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wine-lol/

--- Comment #1 from Danilo Riffo danriffo@gmail.com 2013-04-19 15:28:51 CDT --- please, don't file bugs before posting on the winehq LoL site (I know you just did) or before seeing an answer there.
This is probably because you lack the text fonts LoL uses. Install corefonts via winetricks and you'll be fine.

--- Comment #2 from foxxx fox@luxx-area.de 2013-04-21 03:41:13 CDT --- Using the script provided by Danilo Riffo on the "League of Legends" AppDB-page fixes everything.
If you ever encounter any problems, just start over again using his script which will compile wine from scratch with some nice patches -> Chat working and performance improvements.
Sorry for opening a bug-report on this.

--- Comment #3 from Danilo Riffo danriffo@gmail.com 2013-04-21 10:27:30 CDT --- I can help solve most of the problems on the WineHQ site, please file bugs only when we can't find a solution :P
Glad you solved your issue :D

--- Comment #4 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2013-04-21 10:36:00 CDT --- If the program does not work in plain wine then the bug is not fixed.

--- Comment #5 from Danilo Riffo danriffo@gmail.com 2013-04-21 10:41:34 CDT --- But the "bug" is not related to pure wine, because the custom-compiled wine that generated the problem was patched, too, and those patches (which were different from the ones that my script uses) can cause the described problem.
So the bug can be closed indeed, because there is no evidence that it was caused by pure wine.
