Bug ID: 40182 Summary: Elder Scrolls Online: Login connection issues Product: Wine Version: 1.9.3 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: amgeddis@msn.com Distribution: ---
Disclosure: I am using Wine-staging 1.9.3
Since patch 2.2.11 on 2/8/2016 Elder Scrolls Online cannot be played in WINE.
Logging in usually works but trying to load a character either results in
1. The animation icon eventually freezing and the app hanging
or
2. Getting booted back to the login screen with the error: "An error has occurred. Please try again in a few minutes". All subsequent logins after the error message give the error code 301 which according to the codes sheet means:"Lobby connection failed"
When logging in doesn't work there is only error code 301.
Steps to recreate: Run Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe, hit "Play", log into account, select "Play" below the character.
Game used to play great with 32-bit prefix, corefonts, and vcrun2013 installed.
Tried creating clean new prefixes in both 32-bit and 64-bit but neither worked with or without corefonts and vcrun2013 also installed.
On the Elder Scrolls Online forums there are three other WINE users that have come out and said they've had the same problem since patch 2.2.11 and contacting the developer Zenimax Online support only gave back generic messages of "We do not support Linux".
One of the other WINE users also said they have the same problem in their Windows dualboot installation as well.
There are also several other Windows users on the Elder Scrolls Online forums complaining of the same problem and all still report this being a problem for them.

--- Comment #1 from gourgou gourgou.dump@club-internet.fr --- I confirm my wife (latest ubuntu) and I (gentoo with latest ~amd64 wine) have the same problems. My wife reinstalled windows and we can now log into our accounts there, but still not under linux.
We're not part the people from the game's official forums the OP mentionned.

--- Comment #2 from gourgou gourgou.dump@club-internet.fr --- I've read that some people got rid of the problem after upgrading wine to 1.9.4. So I pulled the latest git version through portage, and I confirm the issue seems gone (ie if I don't come back in 2-3 days to report the opposite ^^ ).

So is this fixed?

--- Comment #4 from gourgou gourgou.dump@club-internet.fr --- Yes, solved for me at least. Never had a connexion issue afterwards!
Well… I mean, until the release of the latest DLC (thieve's guild), when the developper dropped support for DX9 and, incidentally it seems, for the "Renderer" line in UserSettings.txt altogether. Since then, any attempt to launch the game from wine ended up with an error report stipulating that DX11 couldn't be found (duh…)
I believe (but have no solid info on the matter) that OpenGL support simply got lost in translation. Wether it might make a come-back some day, I have no inkling at all, but am not really confident.
I have simply rm'ed -Rf my wine prefix and game directory.
