Bug ID: 36337 Summary: Wine crashes when running Battlefront II Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: ole32 Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: great123456@mail.com
wine-1.7.2 and newer Opensuse 13.1 I submitted this question to the forums but I have been unable to resolve the issue so I'm submitting it as a bug. The url is:
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21966
Summery is that I get this output when hitting the install button.
<terminal> err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded </terminal>
It makes no difference which version of windows I set wine to.

--- Comment #1 from Teras teras@luukku.com --- You should retry with newer wine. Also the compiled version of wine that you tried had lots of stuff missing.

--- Comment #2 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
reading the referenced forum thread it boils down to broken host dependencies and broken Wine package, suggesting this is rather 'INVALID'. Also Appdb shows no such problems (= worked for a long time with older Wine versions).
There is no indication of a crash here, removing this to avoid confusing other users. And no, 'err:ole:CoInitializeEx' in terminal is benign.
OP talks about the installation part - not even running the actual game:
--- snip --- ballsystemlord@vian1:~/.wine/dosdevices/d:> wine LaunchBFII.exe --- snip ---
-> 'LaunchBFII.exe' = installer on CD/ISO.
--- quote --- Unfortunately, after starting the app and hitting the install button it gives me a message and quits. --- quote ---
The message is displayed when the installation is finalized on *any* system setup, it's completely harmless.
--- snip --- <install media>\GameData\Setup.exe --- snip ---
I even downloaded 'Star Wars Battle Front 2' using a distributed backup (which aims for proper preservation of the digital cultural heritage *g*).
Installs fine, runs fine. Resolving 'INVALID'.
