Can this at least have a version of wine specified and architecture (x86_64 or
x86 etc)? Would make this easier to reproduce. A distribution of Linux (if its
Linux) would be nice, or just a pick of OS as well.

What version of wine are you using? what os? 32-bit or 64-bit? Did you download
the WMP 9 installer? If so, what's the download URL?

Also lease *do not PASTE* logs and back traces, (attach them instead).

The version from download.com did not crash for me, but it did not succeed
either.

What is the download url you're using?
I did use the official version from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx and
additionally a few others I found - all with the same result.
I did install msxml3 so I could override it - having now removed this override,
it still crashes although on another point.
