Summary: BewerbungsMaster, a program for helping people with their applications hangs in several places. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.31 Platform: PC-x86-64 URL: http://www.optimale-bewerbung.de/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: winecreations@trashmail.net
Created an attachment (id=24109) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=24109) Log of starting the BewerbungsMaster and as well as the Registration process.
NOTE: This Bug is about a german program with glitches. I guess that not much work needs to be done in order to let this function properly.
The 'BewerbungsMaster' is a program that is intended to help people with managing their applications (not programs) to companies and whatever other jobs they might apply for. 'BewerbungsManager' easily stores personal data, style sheets and actual DIN-Norms in order to help its user generating a perfect job application and keeping track of their CV and everything that it needed in order to get the job they want.
I am the owner of a fully working license for the 'BewerbungsManager' and and enjoy being in close contact to its developer (who honestly does not know that much about Linux). The program installs without any noticable error (although I must say that fonts are very small through the install process). And here we start: Starting it works fine until itb says "Please wait..." - and there it hangs. Issuing a 'STRG+C' in console mysteriously lets the program continue - and it WORKS FINE from that point on.
Secondly the registration process hangs and the progress bar stop half way of completion. Registration is -of course- besides the full functionality of the program in WINE one of the most important processes for the developer.
I´d like you to analyze the log and find out, why 'STRG+C' has to be pressed first in order to let it continue. Important places in the log have been commented. Up until that point reproduction is easy: Download a free trial of BewerbungsMaster here: http://www.optimale-bewerbung.de/download.php (first .EXE on the left).
That the checkboxes in BewerbungsMaster do not work properly is considered a minor bug. Functionality first, please. THANKS FOR TAKING A LOOK!

I can't reproduce a hang with either wine-1.1.31 or wine-1.1.31-115-ge773c51. The application starts, displays a progress bar, and then shows the "Willkommen beim BewerbungsMASTER" dialog. The only thing I noticed was that the application crashed on exit.

--- Comment #2 from sl@shback winecreations@trashmail.net 2009-10-15 02:09:06 --- Of course it does. Please click the way beyond the welcome screen until the Program tells you to "Bitte warten..." ("please wait"). There is the first glitch. When started from console, STRG+C lets continue the user using the program - else if you haven´t started it from there, no chance continuing...

Kind regards,

slashback, could you please try it in a clean wineprefix?

--- Comment #5 from sl@shback winecreations@trashmail.net 2009-10-25 06:51:47 --- As I already said - I did this multiple times. Just yesterday I talked to Andrew Nguyen on IRC and after submitting several Logs to pastebin it turned out, that this program hangs on startup in OFFLINE mode. Obviously the integrated Updater gets fired up when launching BewerbungsMaster - causing this hickup without internet connection. I´m still waiting for his friendly confirmation. After he´s confirmed, I´ll talk to the developer of the program as we have a somewhat good connection.
Thanks for testing, André!

Does the same thing happen in Windows when there is no Internet connection?

Let´s see if that works. I´ve got another question though: Do you experience broken checkboxes as well when installing this program?

I noticed that the original "broken" application works just fine on 1.0.1. Regression testing indicated:
3d02c42b39c7346a97c41974418a6d01a29f9b81 is first bad commit commit 3d02c42b39c7346a97c41974418a6d01a29f9b81 Author: Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org Date: Thu May 14 16:45:38 2009 +0200

Wine prior to this commit launches the BewerbungsMASTER application without problems. To reproduce the problem, it is sufficient to start the application with no internet connectivity, dismiss the license agreement if launched for the first time by pressing "Einverstanden" and a few dialogs after that, and observe its behavior. If the application is working properly, then the first time the application is launched, the application will load to the point that the "Willkommen beim BewerbungsMASTER" dialog is displayed. Otherwise, the application simply hangs at a progress bar with "Bitte warten ...". The old installer is available at http://scguy318.freeshell.org/master.exe for testing.

--- Comment #14 from sl@shback winecreations@trashmail.net 2009-11-10 06:26:25 --- Thanks for dedicating your time to this bug, Andrew! Have you been testing the newest version by the developer of the program yet? You might have missed my previous post stating that I talked directly to the developer and his team in order to change the update routine. Recently he confirmed that version 4.7 has been released. I haven´t had time to test for bugs with the new version yet, but I´d certainly like you to report back if the bug mentioned here has been solved with the update. Furthermore I´d like you to remove the program from your own FTP. Please do not link to any older version of the program for testing purposes on your own server. Instead, _always_ use the latest version available here: http://www.robl-online.de/downloads/master.exe -- THANK you for contributing!

I´ll tell him right away for sure. It seems like this is an issue within WINE, but what would you suggest to do to find the bug and eliminate it? If you need any information from the developer of the program, please give me a hint. Thanks.

If the Developer or you are willing to, write a testcase(only reproduce the steps which cause the problem) in C and provide the source.

The programm is not written in C, but in VB. Furthermore he told me that if we could provide the necessary steps to accomplish the testcase, he will support us and will write it. So where are the problems located and which steps exactly are necessary to accomplish a useful testcase?
Another small update: Within WINE the checkboxes of the program are currently not displayed correctly. He is actively working on that issue.
Thanks for supporting us, guys!

Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?
